hi all,
had a strange problem thats happened twice now, when queing in traffic(fookin m6 by junc 10 :( )
engine stalled and wont idle, starts again fine
and temp guage is smack in the middle no steam or anything and fan is working.
obviously getting abit too warm but i think it might be the idle control valve as its a bit irratic at the same time ie. sits at around 1100 rpm until i blip the pedal the goes to normal (when begining to cool back down) Any ideas??
cars a 2000 1.6 bravo 57000 miles
cheers.....justin

cheers tom its smooth but racing slightly
then i blip the accellerator an it goes back to normal
cheers............ justin

Re: ki768i

cheers again tom, is it just that its getting warm and doing it do you think? (metal expandin when warm n all that)?
is so whats best to do?

Re: ki768i

mine does exactly the same, but sometimes ticks over at 1500rpm then blips itself! also had the cutting out problem, which engine is yours? mine's a 1.8 but im thinkin the air flow meter may have gone (havent had chance to check it) that or the thermo time switch as mine has been eating petrol like you wouldnt believe recently! (guessing it hasnt realised the engine is warm or whatever) let me know if u find out what is up cos its gettin on me nerves!

Re: ki768i

sounds just like mine (HGT), except for the cutting out part. I also have the added pleasure of the fuel injector light coming on and the revs dropping near cut out point. Had it on diagnostics and had fault codes;

7-Air Flow Meter
45-Coolant Temperature Sensor

So I am gonna try the cheapest option first (dont know which one that is yet though)

Re: ki768i

i'll take a wild stab at the temp sensor being the cheapest (flow sensors are quite a big item mostly), let me know which works! ta!

Re: ki768i

hi jay, i dont know about the fuel cause im getting about 290-300 miles to a tank on a 1.6(tho i swear i used to get more)??
il let you know what it is but im still guessing the ide valve but its strange its only happening when standing for a while(in traffic etc) normal driving is fine,idles/picks up normally!
just out of interest where is the air flow meter?
cheers......justin

Re: ki768i

not sure on the 1.6, but i'l hazard a guess as it should be on the intake, usually metal casing with wires leading to the ecu (easily confused with other things mind, so check the haynes manual also known as the "book of lies")
yea mine doesnt do it all the time, jus sporadically, completely random days! (both hot and cold) it has even been known to stall completely and then miraculously start up again!
as for the fuel consumption i although i think it is eating loads i cant remember what normal consumption used to be! (its doing roughly 55 miles to a tenner!)
ta!
