My first thread so pls be kind but pls help..
I have a Multipla (2003 jtd 1.9 diesel) and the gears crunch when i put it into 1st gear and also into reverse however this mostly happens when the car is warm. a fiat garage has said its the clutch and flywheel and want to charge me nearly £1000 to fix. someone else suggested it may be the syncromesh.
???

Id start by doing a search on here to see if other similar problems have popped up before but id check the amount of travel there is when the clutch is depressed at the gearbox end, i think its about 30mm but ill try and confirm this as some have had problems with a spring failing in the master cylinder.

Sounds like the spring....same as mine. 100k miles and no clutch yet. But the spring has broken....with the same symptoms as you.

sounds like the same as my one

how much did it cost to replace the spring? is it a d.i.y job?

Wanted to bump this up as i seem to be having the same problem, where is the spring located and how do you change it?
Thanks all

Had a similar problem on ours which developed whilst on Hols. in France to point where I couldn't change gear without double de-clutching (Hadn't done that for 25 years and then on a knackered Marina). Did turn out to be clutch, but not at all happy with Fiat quote. Went to independent clutch specialist who did the job for about £350 and gave a 3 year guaranty (against Fiat's 1).

IMHO Fiat dealers will rip you off at every stage, and frankly the jobs I have had done there are far from satisfactory and have needed to go back to be sorted.
