Hi Guys & Gals!

My other half is having some issues with his Nokia 6500 Slide and it is peeving me off big style :bang:

Firstly, he can't store any of his own ringtones... it just resets back to normal - so it's the original nokia tone all the time!!

More recently, it just cuts out, goes to a white screen then comes back on again. It does it usually 4 - 5 mins into a call and I'm still yapping away til it my phone has an end-of-call bleep... oblivious he's gone!! (n)

He set a password when he got the phone and now can't remember it to reset it (idiot!), is there a way to override the password to reset/update firmware software?

Help!!

Fankoo :D

i have just sent mine back to day, mine dose that white screen thing at the speaker is buggered so i have to use loud speaker, so every one knows my phone calls at the mo lol, i just rang t-mobile and told them, they sent out a bag, i sent it this after noon should have it back next week

i had nokia phones for basiclly the last 10 years (bar 1 when i had a motorolla V66i)

i had

nokia 2110- no faults
nokia 5110 - no faults (and my favourite phone i have ever owned)
nokia 6110 - no faults
nokia 3310 - no faults
nokia 7650 - no faults
Nokia 6630- just goddam slow, but no faults
nokia 6680 - this was the first one that was a bit buggy, infrequent crashes, however it worked ok
nokia N80 - my second favourite phone, web browser crashed to often causing phone to restart, also random restarts the norm, then the speaker died after 10 months.
nokia N70 - just as retarded as the 6330

I have now moved onto SE phones and my Sony P1i is excellent- never crashes does everything i need and still looks brand new after 12 months of (ab)use. my mrs has a k800i that kept dying (red LED o death) but after 3 failures SE replaced the unit, so now, 10 months later she has a brand new phone that hasnt gone wrong since she got it.

I used to love nokias s60 interface and was worried about changing brands, but bh, the SE job is just as good and reliability is a big factor now

I've had a Nokia N70 for the past couple of years now. Was given to me as part payment for fixing a car, though I didn't get any instructions or utility discs with it. Even now I'm still discovering new features and things it can do

Considering my previous (and only other!) phone was a Nokia NK402 that was somewhat prehistoric, though very reliable for the 7 years I had it(!), the N70 was quite a leap forward in comparison! The N70 has been reliable and has more than enough features for what I use a phone for. The camera (2mp) is not bad at all and the video camera is actually surprisingly good, including the sound quality. I do agree that some features are a little slow but it works, apart from the odd crash about once every two to three weeks.

Until I can replace it with a more modern phone for peanuts I'll be sticking with it. Oh, and I think I'll be avoiding the 6500 slide ;)

I love my 6500 Slide proper easy to use old school Nokia. Apparently they have had software issue so take it to your retailer and make sure you have necessary updates.

My 6600 met a nasty end on a hot wash in the washing machine and I asked for this 6500 as a replacement. It's a much nicer phone.

Regarding the resetting ring tone and wallpaper issue, its something to do with the memory card. To fix this, choose the ringtone you want off yr memory card and transfer it to the phones memory. The same with the wallpaper. Store the picture onto the phones memory and it won't keep returning to default.

I've always had a soft spot for Nokias ever since my first Nokia 5146 (faceoff), i modded it good n' proper. Replaced the green leds for blue, clear blue face with crystal blue buttons and a clear blue aerial with a flashing red led! I loved it till i got beaten up for it.

As for my 6500 slide, my ex gf lost it! Pity really because i actually quite liked it!

i love mine:

I got the N96 now and its very very slow to respond sometimes and it likes crashing when my alarm goes of. Causing me to be late for work once. But as the phones new, ill let it of because new firmware should fix that over time.

I have a N95....hunk of poo. I have to charge it every night.

Best phone i've ever owned was the 3410....it worked.

I have a Sony Ericsson K800i which has recently stopped working after about 2 years of abuse, looking to replace now instead of the rubbish Nokia 6630 I'm having to borrow.

SE customer support no good to help me retrieve contacts from backups(n) done it now though

what puzzles me is the way everyone now expects phones and that to be launched and not work properly, and that after a few months it would be sorted.

this is a joke tbh, it should work straight from the box and not be full of bugs.

i understand phones can be updated, but this should be for added features, not fixing shoddy firmware releases.

this never was the case with older phones. I was in college when every fecker was getting pay as you go as it was a new thing, and guess what, that was a lot of people getting mobiles and none were ballsing up- sure people where unhappy with a few if they were hard to use, but thats interfacing, not buggy firmware

Now its a case of one person gets a new phone in the office and their opinion will be 'oh its great, its only crashed or froze three times in the last 24 hours and the battery lasts half a day', i would find that as faulty and unfit for purpose- like buying a dvd player that lets you watch half a film before turning off or locking out.

these phone companies need to get firmwares sorted before they launch the phone. I remember the first phone that had software issues for its users requiring firmware updates and it was suprise, a nokia 8110 (the phone from the matrix) since then every manufacturer thinks its ok to launch phones with knackered firmware...

its just gash

rant over
