Since my last post of 4 weeks ago, the problem has not re-surfaced. I think the original garage was only "clearing" the fault rather than doing the "re-registering" bit (mind you, now that I've said that, it's bound to go wrong!)

To register the new sensor: Is it enough to disconnect the battery for a while ?
