Hi thought I'd start a new thread for quickness
my original thread went something like this -

Hi there everyone, recently bought a Sei Sporting completly standard 29,000 miles, thought we'd got us a bargain, now am not so sure, we used to have a SX but sold it a few months back, got a punto - missed seicento :(, and so we hunted the sporting we'd always dreamed of (ITS BLACK WITH ORANGE BITS!!!:):):))

It was about a 40 mile drive down the motorway, we drove it back on a windy night and it seemed very nippy at first, then after about 10-15 min's it seemed a bit sluggish, a problem which has persisted even after I have........

1, changed oil and filter
2, changed air filter (just a normal unipart one)
3, changed spark plugs
4, today - changed fuel filter

it's recently had a full new exhaust, and (after warming up) changing into second is always CRUNCH, now for the scary bit - I can be driving around quite normally and suddenly the engine cuts out, I think its mainly in the crunchy second gear that it goes out, but I may just be paranoid cos of the noise it makes, also the ride is quite jerky even if you are being very careful with you're right foot, oh and it seems slower than the old sx!!!, my suspisions lead me now to the cam belt, and maybe clutch adjustment, but I'm no mechanic, has anyone else had similar problems or know what it is?, my fiancee needs it for gettin to work in - but I don't want her driving it for obvious reasons!

PLEASE HELP:bang:

Firstly, adjust the clutch.

Now the tricky bit. You really need to run it until it stops and then find out whether its fuel or spark related.

I presume the management light is not coming on, so the engine must assume its supposed to be shutting down. Check that the crank sensor is clean.

As it happens once its warm and its recently had an exhaust, does the 02 sensor look OK?

Cheers

after much trawling through the forum and of course rallycinqs input (Cheers m8:slayer:) I'm pretty sure it's gonna be the crank sensor - only thing is I don't know where this, or what it looks like, sorry to ask such a dumb question people but whats it near/ where is it, also is the 02 sensor mentioned above the one on the air filter? - pipe thingy.

like I mentioned up there- I'm no mechanic - just the basics

Thanks in advance ppl, :worship:

PS; I am literally ordering a haynes cinq manual right now, soooooo.....
I shall stop asking dumb questions V V soon ;)

Promise

Crank sensor is a black tube pointing at the toothed wheel on the crank pulley. It sits about 1.00 mm from the pulley.

The O2 sensor, also known as lambda sensor, is fitted in the exhaust down pipe. Again a tubular thing perpendicular to the pipe.

Hello cgworral
I to have a Fiat Scientio sporting (red) i has 52k on the clock i luv it to pieces and i my first car !!!!
I to feel your pain as i too have the same problem with the crankshaft sensor however mine doesnt cut out when its starts, but somtimes stops the engine from firing when starting up. I found that taking the cranksahft sensor out and cleaning it helps. But mine is hevaily worn!!!!:yuck:

i was wondering whereabouts and for how would a brand new crankshaft sensor cost ???? i was thinking about going to a local scrappie, but then agian i would probally have the same problem as the it would be a worn sensor and not a new one!!
Also are they easy to fit ???? i have had a look and traced it to where it is connected looks easy but is there anything to considerwhen replacing ???

Also i would like to point out that the position of my crankshaft sensor is just behind the oil filter and has a grey cable coming from it !!!!

message me or response would be much appreciated!!
Cheers
Fiat Major

Just had the sensor off, give it a good clean up, re-connected it and started car, I left it to warm up untill fan came on, then took it for a quick spin - although only round the block it seemed much more responsive - even in second, the sensor wasn't that dirty, BUT the rocker cover gasket needs replacing, its dripping oil down the front of the block and onto the back of the sensor (the bit next to the oil filter) hmmmm

anyway I'm having that replaced soon (hopefully next sat) along with the Cam belt (peace of mind) also noticed some steam coming from the radiators direction :(, also fiat major I'v seen this sensor on Ebay (Item number: 360015125213) £25, I don't know if thats expensive or not, may try partco for a price if I'm in that part of town (I get a realy good discount there) if it's a cheaper I'll let you know, now we'll just run it around as normal see what happens, no doubt I'll be back here soon

Cheers

Fiat charge £35.33 inc vat for that part, I bought one from partco, but the lead didnt seem long enough to fit, so I bought one from them on ebay. Im also going to buy a lamda sensor from that ebay seller aswell. Good fast delivery to.
