Could the MAF cause other issues?

Prob a silly question but I'm pretty sure my MAF has been on the way out for ages, not revving properly at 2.8k-3.1k, slow pickup etc...

recently, on occasion the car feels 'alive' which I guess is the MAF kicking in and making it rev properly, but could it cause other things.
I ask because when the car is revving properly the steering feels more responsive and the engine seems quieter. I would go as far as saying that the brakes seem better but I think that's just my imagination.

SO, question is can the MAF cause power steering changes and engine running noise?

Can anyone say if it can caus eother thigs to work better?

it's strange but more often than not she seems to be flying... can the MAF clean itself after a while?
