Technical Cooling Trouble

I have a 1989 Ducatto Campervan, which has had a long list of problems. The Cooling fans on the radiator have never worked, I have found a lot of wires which had been disconnected and cut. I have connect all the wires up to were they should go, the thermomoter on the dash now works telling me the wngine temperature (which never worked before).

However I have traced the wires going to the fans back to a relay holder, with no relay in it. This is clearly the problem as to why the fans will not come on. But because there is no Relay there I dont know what sort of relay to buy to replace it and fix the problem. If anybody could help with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Probably disconnected because they are shorted or seized you need to check that first.

No the fans are working, I connected them straight to the battery and they work fine.
