Have a 1.2 Manual Pop. (2013)

Doing my weekly check and found the coolant is near the min mark (cold engine). In Australia we don't have these weird coolant name fiat want us to use at regular auto stores. Do I need to purchase these from the dealer? I imagine it would be quite expensive. Just need a top up. Car done 21,000 kms now.

There's no need to pay sky high main dealer prices for something that sounds like bird flu. As long as you use a pink OAT coolant it'll be just fine.

Ok Thanks I'll look around and post back. From what I remember all seems to be green in colour. I'll check again in a few days.

I thought Fiat were still using Paraflu UP, which is a red OAT coolant.

Also JR, Paraflu is red, I've got some and it doesn't look like pink oat, it looks like raspberry cordial when mixed.

It's still an OAT inhibited ethylene glycol coolant, so compatible with any reputable brand of pink coolant.

You're in Australia! Just put distilled water until the max mark ! No -20c over there !

You still need the corrosion inhibitors, but a small amount of plain distilled water wouldn't hurt.

i think the difference between min max with distilled water wouldnt kill the system

some are obviously warmer than others..,( got rellies in Perth WA)

I'm in Victoria. Summer here can be very hot and very cold in winter in northern parts.
I will stay away from dealers and try look for matching similar ones at auto stores.

is that because of Altitude..??

yes, OAT is a designation for modern Antifreeze / coolant

generally PINK in colour, but if what you find says OAT coolant you're probably fine,
as stated you won't need much,
so a ready diluted litre bottle may do the job well,

generally modern cooling systems don't LOSE fluid.. have you had ANY work done that may have lost some..??

common for garages, to top-up after working..but don't drive enough to shift trapped air,
so over a few weeks the system "self-bleeds" leading to a lower level in the system,

Yes I'm at higher altitudes hence why it is colder.

NO ..||
that's dangerous, HOT liquid under pressure..:nono:

let it cool , parked on a level surface, then SLOWLY remove the cap,
and check the level,
then replace cap ( topping up if necessary)

ALL levels should be checked when COLD and level..

I meant when engine is warm I notice the level is higher. There is no dipstick for coolant anyway. You can only see it from the marker on semi clear plastic tank. Nothing to open of course.

But yeah I will buy a bottle and top up.

Also car did 21,000 kms and never had coolant topped up. So I assume nothing is wrong with it.
