Hey guys,

2009 1.4 T-Jet here, and I've noticed some white stuff at the top of the coolant box (see pictures) my first thought was head gasket, but the coolant itself appears fine and the oil looks ok too, any ideas what it might be and should I be worried?

Thanks

How can you tell with the lid on?

When's the last time the coolant was changed?

I took the lid off, it's the white at the top of the lid that is the issue I think, can't be seen when you take the lid off (3rd picture shows it best), the coolant inside looks ok, last changed end of last year

Hi

Im not seeing anything obvious in your pics..

However..

The favourite thing found around engines: coolant systems is an 'emulsion' of oil and water .. looks like mayonnaise..

Use a bit of rag..or kitchen towel..
to scoop it out.. try and wipe the sufaces clean

Then see if it returns :)

Agree with varesecrazy .
If deposit is pinkish white crystals around coolant neck on outside and near hose ends it can be antifreeze deposits. I assume no one has put rad seal or any thing like it in there.

Thanks both, going to try that and see what happens! I'm happy as long as it's not head gasket related tbh

For anyone following along, it was potentially caused by the sealant that was used when the water pump was replaced, leaves a gold residue on the water tank cap.
