General Coolant hose

Hi folks. I have a slightly leaky hose (!). 2.3 130 multijet, 2012.

I reckon it could be due to it being a crappie jubilee clip which has eaten into the bottom of the pipe? Can anyone point me in the right direction for a replacement for this bit of hose please?

You should be able to locate an original hose though Coastal motorhomes , in Ringwood . If you need the number give me a shout .

But frankly , i would slip into your local Motorist accessory , or discount centre , and get yourself a similar length , piece of heater hose with the same interior diameter . Get yourself a couple of new jubilee clips too , personally i favour stainless steel , but traditional steel is almost as good . It will be exactly the same repair , just much cheaper .

This repair is pretty straight forward , it even looks accessible .

Just to add to this, the long rectangular metal thing that the hose attaches to is the EGR cooler. The recirculated exhaust gas passes through the middle, and is reduced in temperature before it enters the engine intake system. This is achieved by passing engine coolant through a jacket round the outside. Your leaky hose is in the flow or return of this coolant circuit. Any hose used as a replacement must be suitable for coolant temperature and pressure, so the suggestion of universal heater hose is a good one.

It's unusual to find worm drive (Jubilee) clips as an original fitment, as manufacturers prefer cheaper "once only" crimp type designs that are quicker to install in production. So someone may have been there before you, in which case check that the metal stub pipe is in good condition.

Now that is interesting , but a quick question . During my recent cooling system rebuild , i found numerous quantities of what appeared to be called ear crimps , what you call once only (my Dremel was a serious friend here) . Now i wouldn't class them as cheap , but they are certainly quicker , though careful selection must be made , to ensure that sweet seal . One way to overcome this would be to use a double ear clamp , where you have the ability to , what in effect amounts to , double crimp them .

Is there any other reason why manufacturers would prefer to fit them ? , Ant .
 
Ear crimps[ spring clamps ] allow the hose to expand when hot but still keep the joint tight , jubilee clips [ so last year ..!] do not allow for expansion and will weaken and rupture the hose thats why manufacturers have used them for ages ..
