Hi Ralf, I don*t understand why outside of the USA it would be no problem to obtain an automatic transmission?
So where you are it is easy then to obtain an automatic spider transmission?
Actually in germany there are thousands but they don't have the correct bellhousing.
I am driving a Lada Niva 5 gear. The Niva engine is for most parts the same as the 124 engine. of one of the two 1600 engines, the pistons and con-rods amongst other parts are interchangeable.
The 124 and 131 transmissions are compatible, so is the Niva transmission.
I bought a 2.0L injected 132c3.031 1131480 engine which I will bolt into my Niva combined with an automatic transmission.
I have sourced a bellhousing and the transmission I will buy in germany for 50€ to a 100€.
I also purchased an Eaton M65 / M62 supercharger out of a mercedes.
The automatic transmission has many advantages. You get much more low end power over an manual transmission.
The converter multiplies your torque 2.0x to 2.5x up to the point when it locks up.
A 3 speed auto transmission is really a 6 speed. The torque converter is another "grear" for itself.
And the transmission is completely watertight so I would have no more problems at periscope debth
.
I would love to trade my niva 5 speed manual for a automatic
