Hello everybody, new member here.
I am owner of Fiat Ducato based motorhome from 2022.
I am a software engineer for many years, and trained electrician, and my hobby is home automation and renewably energy.
One of the projects I would like to work on is to allow remote locking unlocking of the motorhome from a mobile phone, as a convenience first, but as a safety feature second. Imagine you loose the car keys when traveling abroad in a foreign country in the wilderness of not having service nearby.
I had a very good experience with this piece of electronics: Shelly Plus UNI (https://www.shelly.com/en-cz/products/product-overview/shelly-plus-uni-1).
It can be supplied with anything up to 24V to work - think connecting directly to car battery.
It has two digital inputs that can be used independently - think one of them indicting "door locked", the other "door unlocked" for example.
It has two independent digital outputs that can be used to control anything - I'm thinking one to "lock the door", the other to "unlock the door".
The Shelly Plus UNI requires WiFi, that can be easily provided by Raspberry Pi Zero, also powered directly from the car battery, and if going wild, raspberry pi zero can be equipped with 4G/5G modem so that it can be online all the time.
Even the version where you can come close to your car, connect to the WiFi provided by Raspberry Pi Zero and "unlock" the car seems to me like a great feature.
I'd like to learn what the more experienced members of the forum think about it, and if we agree it is doable I'd like to get some pointers where I can learn more about how to implement the functionality.
As I understand things now, Fiat Ducato from 2022 would be platform X250 using Body Control Module to manage locking.
thanks for any opinions, tips, pointers...
Martin
