hi everybody, i got myself ducato 2.8 15 jtd lwb 2002 57k on clock, engine and everything in it looks absolutely brand new, the noise that comes from it while driving is nausiating and goes through you, i woudnt say that it is vibrating, its more like a low grinding hum tht continues in all gears and is unbearable to drive, and also the spanner display stays on in the dashboard, does that have anything to do with it, i just got the van today and im feeling pretty gutted, can somebody tell me its not all bad news

Well if the gears are changing ok and not crunching and the noise is the same in all gears and when you depress the clutch then hopefully your gearbox is ok.

Take it to a car park and drive it in circles hard right or hard left does the noise change?

If the rear gearbox mount is completely gone you can get a big hum in the cab and the cross member. I've never seen the top engeine mounts get that bad.

Maybe the exhaust is holed and or hanging off or tied on with wire instead of rubbers. I've heard turbos generate a decent vibration prior to exploding. Easily distinguishable by widely varying the throttle.
