Connecting a USB External HDD to a Network

Right, been looking at doing this for ages now i have done it but it is really slow.

I have a Packard Bell Save Secure 3500 250Gb external HDD which you connect via USB.

Now it runs really great through USB on the computer but had the idea of making in a network drive so that i dont have to keep conecting to it every 5 mins when i need it.

I have a Bt HomeHub and can connect to it through the usb port on there but getting data through it is really slow. I mean 100Mb in 6m 30s.

Is there a way of connecting into the network and making faster too. I would really like to do this as I don't use it at the moment and I think this would make me use it more.

That is pretty slow. If the drive isn't at fault, then i assume its something to do with the HomeHub. Even if the HomeHub is working, you'd still be much better off with a dedicated network storage device like http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/95885

Wired 1GBit network would allow the fastest access. I'm guessing the homehub only transmits at around 108mbit.

a 100mbps can transfer 12.5megs a sec tho, so even with the overhead the transfer time should still be way better than that
