I knew who he was but of course I've had to study CERN...and it's probably their greatest work, oh the irony!
 
It would make a good underground cross-country bunker if needs be one day ;) They haven't made any discoveries that have revolutionised the world (or even physics) anywhere close to what the internet has done, sadly.

1973: The discovery of neutral currents in the Gargamelle bubble chamber.
1983: The discovery of W and Z bosons in the UA1 and UA2 experiments.
1995: The first creation of antihydrogen atoms in the PS210 experiment.
2001: The discovery of direct CP-violation in the NA48 experiments.
Are their major milestones I believe - from wiki though so don't believe it ;). They mean nothing to you or I not because they are so out of league that they are pointless but because they haven't changed the world.

The major quantum physics discoveries have happened elsewhere.

Doesn't stop them wanting to put in some new kit though!

When I am "in the area" I am going to request a visit to see it all - they do them for free. I'll revise my quarks and leptons first though!
