This computer is pissing me of now.

Scan f***** about with delivery so go tno wireless. So i decided to play a bit of crysis to tired me over as i normally play online games.

Run Crysis Warhead, It loads, gets partway through the intro movie clip and the computer freezes. I could turn caps lock on n off etc. Same with mouse sensitivity (Log G5). But the screen was frozen on crysis, couldnt do anything to get it off. So i turned the pc off. Tried to turn it on and it gets to windows loading and then after that screen is black.

It runs and works fine in Safe Mode but iin last known or start normally it just stops after the windows loading logo has gone.

Anyone got any ideas?

Graphics card driver would be my bet

Assuming Windows XP try going into safe mode
Then start > run
msconfig > boot.ini
check base video and reboot

if it loads up then its almost certainly the graphics driver at fault. If it doesn't boot go into safe mode again and uncheck base video. Then go to the startup tab and uncheck every entry. Then reboot. If it works then try checking each item one at a time until it fails (suggesting hte problem item).

Procedure is very similar for 2000 and Vista.

ont this, still hangs after the splash screen :(

Repair console > Chkdsk /r - then fixmbr & fixboot.

Msging you on msn.

Done a chkdsk but stil the same, and read around that fixmbr and fixboot havbe been known to erase ur hdd. not risking that. anyone else got any ideas?

edit: i did the repair just to repair the system files, its now wants me to do the system setup (ive done it before and all was fine). But i cant even get it to boot into this, only reason i know this as safemode wont work......

Finally got a chance to take another look at this.

Did the repair on windows the otherday, Originally it just said "windows xp" and the loading bar on the loading screen, now it says" windows xp home edition" and it trys to go into the setup like you do when u first install windows.

Unfortunately it does the laoding screen and it then goes blank:(

i could get it to a blue screen that said something the other day(cant remember what but it was loading something) but that kept freezing, but it wont go there now.

Only option i can think of is to wack the drive into a spare pc. Image th drive onto the spare pc and also copy all necessary data im going to need and try a reinstall.....

Anyone else got any ideas?

Ohh also tried a spare gfx weve got, its brand new but a year or so old and never been used. this didnt change anything.

Have you not got another PC you can quickly pop the hard drive in to get stuff off it?

I think this is a driver problem, though could also be a bad RAM problem. Can you download and run Memtest86+ (you will need to burn the .iso and then boot from the CD) from www.memtest86.com to check the RAM. Let it complete 4 cycles. If all clear, you can rule out faulty RAM.
I'd then suggest going in in safe mode and removing GFX drivers. Reboot, let the PC install them again and then see if it is still screwing up.

Also, the PC says "Home Edition" now as you probably had Professional installed before.

Cant go into safe mode now as i need to do "setup" again as i stated above.........

Ill give the memtest ago, think ive got it on cd somewhere with other boot programs.

Also as i stated above used another pc but it wont recognise the drive in my computer and go into hardware and it doesnt seem to be picking it up.

Tempted to buy another Sata drive like i was looking at doing anyways.

Nope i didnt have pro on before, dont own a pro edition, always had a home one as thats the licence i have..........

:(

Odd..

What colour is the scrolling bar when windows loads?
Blue is Pro, greny/browny is Home.

You say that the other PC doesnt recognise it - does it pop up in disc management? (Right click " My Computer", then select "Manage", then select "Disc management".

The only reason why the other PC is not picking it up because its a different motherboard so therefor it will need drivers for that motherboard for the sata drive to work. All motherboards should come with a Floppy Disk with drivers on for the sata drives.(y)

As for it not installing windows i generally think its a CD Rom drive issue try another one as sometimes if a CD is scratched it wont pick up the data properly on the CD where as other rom drives read it more deeper. I know this as ive had the same problem before just like you.

I think you are getting confused between SATA and RAID.

Hard drives (SATA or IDE) do NOT need a driver to run properly.

You could try replacing the system config file with the repair copy (this will lose all you windows settings but data should be fine)

boot up from cd and select recovery console

log in to administrator

try

copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config
it should ask you if you wanna replace the original say yes

Gonna have a look in disk manager when i can

Ok then why shall i have a driver floppy for my motherboard for my sata drives then?

by the way if the drivers are not installed when you remove the sata from your pc and then put it back in say goodbye to your files.

No it only replaces one file, all your data will be fine

Did the same as above but with a slight add on.......

copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system

ONly added this after reading it on microsofts website after googling the above....

I nearly went through the roof i was that excited when i saw the logon screen, res is ****e and it is taking ages for "windows is starting up" to go but i can wait..........

wish i hadnt of done the "repair" now :(

thinking the slight change might of been a mistake? bet it was ...........

Windows Product Activation
