i use AVG antivirus myself, used to use agnitum outpost firewall (till i got a router and now i dont bother) never been one for norton or mcaffee as they always seem to want to install other content filters, firewalls, spyware programs etc which really annoy me.

even the ms antispyware tool is pretty neat.

personally shelve all the crap though, copy anything you need, reinstall when NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET till you have an antivirus program and firewall and you should be fine :D

Easiest way to figure out if your comp is running stuff it shouldn't is to CTRL, ALT+DELETE then look at CPU usage whilst @ desktop with no programs running, should be 5% max, if it ain't look down the process list and take down a note of everything and enter it into Google for the ones that look suspect i.e. webtool.exe web etc etc search your HD for them and delete plus also look into your add/remove programs and remove any stuff from there too.

Restart your machine then repeat although AVG and Spybot will rid you of those problems if you just run them then afterwards stop clicking OK to download toolbars and OK'ing boxes to view web content and download stuff.

Everyone (well all males) knows where this stuff comes from mainly (AVG picks them up as they try to download/install) there is more virus safe ways of viewing what you view plus there is many hassle free ways to get music and other stuff.

I am calling on the forumers not to help Beau any further since the advice given in this thread is more than enough to help you surf virus free so read it and put it into action or go and study to get entry to the University of McDonalds!

Not unless he has a really fast Processor and an overall stable machine.

I've had viruses which were so weak I didn't know they were there until someone told me to look for it in Start Up  it was promptly deleted.
