I could always just buy another one :D I doubt I will fill 160gb too quickly though.

For the record, the HDD is SOLD :)

I did just get an email from amazon saying shipping is promised by the 31st despite saying the 28th on their initial pre-order site.....bastards! I have complained!

How do they work then are these external drives disks or are they no moving parts?

oh right - how does that work then through USB, I thought there were loads of wires going to hard drives? Not that it matters.

OK, well for a notebook HDD you just have one connector (a normal HDD has 2, one is the IDE cable to the motorboard, the other is the power block).

All you do is slot the HDD pins onto the female socket which is a little PCB with the clever bits to convert IDE to USB 2.0.

I assume it's the same for a 3.5" drive but you have to plug both the cables onto the PCB :)

Answer enough?

Fair enough - I assumed it would go straight to you room because there was no university in the address. When I was in halls last year the mail went straight into a big mailbox in the dining room.

It goes to the reception at a nearby hall, when they can be arsed they bring it over and put it into out mail boxes in the other "wing" which are sorted into flat numbers. Recently they have been doing it every other day or less. I have been told if I am expecting something I should just go and ask and she doesn't mind me getting it before they send it over, however, I hate going there as it is.

Ouuu I am annoyed now!

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk Marketplace.

We have looked into your account and we confirm that your order
#736-7288727-XXXXXXX was to be shipped on January 31, 2005. We expect
our sellers to ship their items within 2 business days of the order
being placed. Your package should arrive by the February 10, 2005.

This was in response to:

On the 26/01/05 I ordered the above from your market place, I had
read, I quote:

How long will it take to arrive?

"Sellers are expected to dispatch goods directly to you within two
working days of the order being placed.

packages dispatched within the UK using Royal Mail generally arrive
within 1-4 working days, depending on the postal service used
packages dispatched to Europe by Airmail generally arrive within 3-7
working days
packages dispatched to the US or the rest of the world using Airmail
generally arrive within 7-12 working days"

Now to me, 2 working days would be dispatch 28/01/05. Correct? Tell
me if I am wrong.

However, the email just received from you stated:

The seller has agreed to dispatch by 31.01.2005. This message serves
as advance notification of your delivery--most sellers will NOT send
a separate delivery confirmation.

31st?! Don't be silly, I was told 28th pre-purchase. I paid for the
delivery, it's not like it's free, now I am expected to wait 5 days
for it to even be shipped? I ordered from you and not somewhere like
ebay because of this promise and I am not happy.

Please don't insult me by saying "It's a general rule" or similar.

Regards
Paul

It f-ing bugs me when they ignore your questions and answer their own question! Grrrr. I am going to be mean now.

It just pisses me off that they say "it will be dispatched within 2 days" to then be told 3 working days (which makes it 5 days due to the weekend, their bad luck, not mine) AND THEN to be repeated the same f-ing information?!

I especially enjoy the past tense, I quote

"#736-7288727-XXXXXXX was to be shipped on January 31, 2005. We expect...."

Hence I asked the lady what the new shipping date is? ;) I expect the lack of reading my question and poorly worded reply could be based on the foreign sounding name hence possible lack of English language skills.

Nothing against anybody from a non-English speaking area, just don't want them listening to my thoughts/questions and then insulting me (Yep, insulting me :p) by replying to their own question.

I said "If you don't reply to my question I will be taking this further so please think about the reply before you reach for the automated messages page" amoungst the rest of the email. Ohhhh how scary do I sound?! ;)

I'll show up what's up my kilt in a moment!

I will let you know if I get a reply. I suppose I should take it up with the seller not amazon but I paid amazon so even though it's done through the market place I assume they handle such complaints and if the seller is sending things too late, it's up to them to kick him.

haha, an apology!?! I am going to read the wording on the site and have them change it or refund me the postage ;)

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk Marketplace.

I have reviewed our previous correspondence with you, and I offer my
sincere apologies for any misunderstanding thus far. Please allow me
to explain.

We confirm that when items are being offered by third-party sellers
on Amazon Marketplace, the availability estimate on our website is
shown as "Usually dispatched in 1-2 working days". Marketplace sellers
dispatch goods directly to the customer within two working days after
the Amazon.co.uk Payments is charged.

I have checked your account and found that this Marketplace
transaction was made on January 26, 2005. However, the related
Amazon.co.uk Payments system was charged on January 27, 2005 and the
funds were transferred to the sellers account. Thus, we expect your
seller 'the_upgradestore' to dispatch this order (#736-7288727-
7383529) within two working days i.e. by January 31, 2005. Your
package should arrive by the February 10, 2005. If it does not arrive
by that date, please contact the seller
at '[email protected]' to let them know.

Purchases through Amazon.co.uk Marketplace work slightly differently
to our retail store. Orders on the Marketplace platform are strictly
between the buyer and the third-party seller. Amazon.co.uk is not
directly involved in these orders and is not an auctioneer or agent on
behalf of either the seller or buyer. Thus, Amazon.co.uk has no
influence over transactions between buyers and sellers.

Although Amazon.co.uk is not directly involved in the transaction
between you and your seller, we certainly want your purchase to go
smoothly.

We do want to make sure that your order works out. Please save this
message. If you don't receive a reply from your seller within 3
business days of contacting them, or are not able to come to an
agreement regarding a non-received order, please reply to us so that
we can investigate the status of your order and take appropriate
actions available to us to resolve the problem.

Oh, that reply was from another Indian name, (a different one). Wonder when Amazon shipped out their customer services :(
