Hi, i am about to start my door moulds on MY car, and i was just wanting to ensure that by putting my tweeters about 2 inches or so off the outer edge of my 17cm mid-range speakers, isnt going to sitort them are they? Also they are slightly enclosed woth about a third of a cubic foot behind them but as a whole (in my design). Meaning that the tweeter and the speaker are in the same enclosure

Basically they wont interfere will they? I have done this before without any problems with other peoples cars, but is that just luck or will they not (or are they incapable) of interfering at that distance?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Jordan

Can't see there being any problems with interference, since Coaxials have the tweeter in the middle of the woofer without any problems. And do the tweeters come with their own pods? Or is the back exposed? Shouldn't be much of a problem since the tweeters don't use that much pressure anyway

Have you got the Thiele-Small (TS) parameters Jordan?

What do you mean interfere? From a SQ point of view? Shouldn't do............

Cant find any TS values  What would you need to see them for? would that indicate they may interfere if they conflicted with the Speakers? I thought TS parameters only applied to tweeters?

They have 4 differnet positions of mounting and the one im using is pretty much enclosed and i plan to encolse it behind anyway allowing just enough for the speaker to be hidden. I would've thought that would maybe cause a small amount of tweeter loss but not too much of a significant loss.

I should have elaborated a bit :)

I wanted to see the TS parameters to see if your proposed enclosure volume would be adequate :) TS parameters can be applied to any speaker........(y)

How are the mid and tweeter gonna be angled on the door card itself?

Ah riteo, thrown me a bit that, not your fault, i dont know what i was thinking there with TS values being linked to beign applied to tweeters only  LOL!

Erm i cant really give any approximate values as i am moulding them to the spare punto Mk1 ELX pods i have, and i am cutting bits off them to make them fit (i know what i am doing at least on this bit lol), them making an MDF template that incorporates the speaker and the tweeter just above it slightly further forward of the speakers and more to the window if looking directly on at either side if you get what i mean.

As far as the angle is concerned i am wanting them to sit fairly flat to the door as i am fairl tall and my legs go either side of the steering, not just underneath it so i do not want to hit them when accelerating or getting in and out etc. so in effect if the car was stripped out, the speaker itself would be angled about towards the centre of the opposite rear window on a 3DR at least, maybe a little higher than centre as i know it makes a little difference if the speaker is angled more so towards the listener as much as possible as that is the best line of sound , and it makes even more so of a differnence with tweeter as because of its higher frequencey it cannot travel as far (i think thats right isnt it?). Therefore i may angle the tweeter even more towards the heads of the people in the front - The bonus of that is it will be louder to the people up front by tad, and when my doors are open at shows etc, the tweeter sounds louder to people who are standing in the space between the car and the door (if people want to look that is as the car isnt anythign spectactular lol).

The thing with tweeter positioning is that it's not always best to have them pointing at you. Get a bit of blutack and place the tweeters in various places and at various angles to see which gives the best imaging (y)

As for the show thing, you have to have one smooth sounding front end otherwise it will sound harsh to everyone stood outside (even though it might sound great in the car). Bass pulls the crowds in.

Thanks for the advice (y) It is much appreciated as its great i can get advice of people that know so much about these thigns. I have already taken your advice on using just 2 12's instead of 2 12's and a 10. and now i am just haivng my components set up front although i may add another set to the back in the future. This car is not going to be any kind of spectacular show car though lol. I am using it to model bits off etc (i am in no way ruining anythin on the inside) until i get my sporting then i can just take my moulded install out of the boot and my door pods off the front and add them stright into my other car again.

So the general consensuss is that they will not interfere yes? (y)

Yes (y)

Try having the tweeters on the A pillars (if there's enough room) - that seems to work in terms of imaging :)
