Punto (Mk2/2b) Colinf1's 2000 Mk2 8v.

Introduction

Hi all,

Heres my progree blog of my work in progress

Bought it in May,

then after a good service and wash/polish

then after i done tints...

and carbon fibre effect badges

then alloys

cc'd wing mirrors

hopefully be getting a few bits n piece to make it look like this soon

was gonna do that, but just wanted to get the done quick and was doin everythin on the cheap..

Back to having a nice smooth ride now....

On another topic, my tints are almost destroyed on front windows, full of swirl marks, just seem to be getting worse each time window is put up or down.
Tried to polish the swirls out of them using a compound, but didnt get them out. Think I'll be taking them off in the next few days. The rear tints are fine tho, so Ill keep them on..

Mini - Service done on car today, 10k since last service.
Spark Plugs
Oil
Oil Filter

Induction kit taken off, original air filter was only a few weeks old when the induction kit went on, so didnt need replacing.

Oil was pretty black and thin, but thankfully didnt loose too much over the last 10k, i reckon about 400ml, if that.

Also needed to change the alternator belt a few days ago, old one started to wear on the outside, but it was quite old anyway.

I reset the ECU, see if it makes any difference to MPG over the next few fill ups.

Also adjusted tyre pressures, had too much air in them, so corners a bit better now.

Need a new HT lead, as 1 has corroded (bluey green powdery stuff on the connector) and has lost 2 of the 4 contacts, with 1 more about to fall off. Car still runs ok, but will change it asap to be on safe side.

best get good HT leads i got 2 sets of what i thought were "good" but well they lasted one service as soon as you pull them off they break lol

my service is due december i do it every 6 months lol gonna have fun doing it in the snow again LOL

Would u not move it forward a few weeks, get it done now that its dry & warm(ish) rather than snow and freezing?

Theres a garage that I pass each morning, and the recently lost there Fiat dealership, so gonna give them a shout tomorrow, hopefully get an OEM set for cheap.

About LED Brin, wouldnt be worth it for me, would cost too much to send/send back, plus its only the basic speedo & fuel gauge model..cheers anyways..

Colin did you recover the b pillars in carbin film your self? COnsidering something like that too mine has gone dull? It looks good also your carbon badges look cool too did you but them or do something with them yourself...I know these are kind of superficial questions but the devils in the detail!(y)

Yeah there a DIY job, but dont use the stuff I used. Looked good to start with, but its fairly faded now.

Use the textured stuff rather than the silver back stuff.

I didnt even take the old vinyl off the doors, just whacked this on top of it, hasnt peeled or lifted at all.

Badges were another diy job with the left over vinyl, but again there faded.

From a thread when I done them...
1 - Take badges off
2 - cut vinyl oversized for each 1, trying to keep direction of effect all the same
3 - colour in the raised letter using non-permenant marker
4 - quickly roll the letter on the backing paper of the vinyl
(this will transfer a rough copy of the letter)
5 - carefully cut around the marker, leave a bit of room to allow it to fit over without having to bend it
6 - give it a dry test to see if it fits ok, if not trim down where its fouling
7 - rough down the badge, prime and spray black
8 - when it dries apply the vinyl
9 - cut down the excess, leaving it a bit short so its not at the edges, and rub into place with soft rag
10 - touch up letters with silver paint using small brush

the vinyl I got isnt very good at stretching using heat, the glue goes off as soon as i starts heating
the letters on mine where quiet worn, which is why i recoated them in silver paint
after you have cut the excess, there might be a few bits of blue coming thru, jus touch these up with a bit of black.

Just takes a bit of time to get them done, but once you get started its not too bad

Then this guide is useful for the front badge..

I will probably end up debadging mine tho, IF i can get some gold bumpers...

Ok i might give it a go, I also want vinal wrap the roof but you should see the state of the roof ill be posting some pics up later on my thread need to do some serious rust eating first!

Nice looking Punto there fella. 2 doors are much nicer than 4, but would the wife listen, Oh Noo (incert Churchill dog here)

Found these in scrapyard today, never seen them before so got them. Found on the back seat of an old VW Jetta..

Center caps too

And 2 mudflaps, about time I replaced the melted one. Came off a siecento!

Thinking of smoothing center caps and doing them black.

Dont know whether to do rings silver or chrome...

Managed to get the hub rings and center caps done today.
Rings where badly kerbed, and had to get rid of the VW embossed into the center caps. Filler at the ready...

Rings done, need more clear coat

Filler, and plenty of it...

Still coming through, more filler...

Gloss black

Have to cut down the rears of caps, not sure on how Ill attach them yet as the wire springs are for bigger bolts

Tested the rings in..

Waiting on them all to dry, then see how they look, figure out a way to attach them...

what a morning, wind would blow the head of ya!

Clear coat decided to make a mess of a center cap and 1 ring. Went all crackley on the center cap and turned the silver metallic on a ring to a smudged grey mess.

Got the center cap smoothed off again, primed and painted, then gust of wind decided to annoy me even more, flipped it up in the air then dropped it in a nice pile of dirt.
It also decided to take the ring I had to respray for a trip across the gravel, few wee marks on it but Im fed up now, so IT WILL DO!

Center caps are held in place with some silicone tubing, pushed over the bolt head and wedged into the back of the cap. Doubt it will hold though.
