General Cold Starting Woes

56 plate 1.2 30k miles
As the weather is getting colder it's struggling to start.
It will fire and run for a few seconds then cut out.
After several attempts it will run,but feels lumpy.
The cooling fan comes on after the first time its cut out.
The temp gauge does not work at this time.However if you shut the car off and restart after about 5 mins the temp gauge will work and the car runs normally.The engine management light is on.
Any clues please gentlemen?

Sounds like you need the codes. If you have a Laptop get a copy of Multiecuscan and a decent ODB2 interface cable
