Evening All

Just put my new dry resin coil pack on my car, and placed the positive/negative wires to the top. An additional wire also to the top of the positive. Anyone know what this wire Is? It was green. There was also a 2nd wire which has always been loose, but to me it looks like it should go the negative terminal. Any thoughts? See pics.

Also please see additional picture of the top lead. Should it be split inside?

Thanks

The HT lead is like that because this allows it to be slightly bigger in diameter than the socket in which it fits; hence it's a friction fit once pushed in. I don't have experience of a dry coil but I think many of them are designed to run normally on 9 volts but they are supplied with full battery voltage at startup. So there's an additional wire activated on full turn of the ignition key. With a conventional coil there's also a wire to connect to the distributor points terminal, but you need a better informed person to advise you of that. At least this kicks the thread back to the top
;)

I think that you will find that wire is the earth connection for the rear lights which connects to one of the coil mounting studs.

Thank you for that. Always wondered since changing it
