cobra alarm help

other half has mk1 MX5, recently the alarm was hard to arm/disarm and had to press fob close to the car for it to work

so, we thought it might be the fob battery, we bought two off ebay and replaced them in the main fob plus spare fob

that worked ok for a short time, but its gone worse again now and we cant arm the car using either of them.

I had the spare one apart again today, and noticed that there was some greasy stuff on the bottom of the buttons, where they touch the circuit board - I am taking a guess here that it may be some sort of conductive gel? there arent any buttons on the circuit board itself just two contacts per button, which is why i am thinking conductive gel and that some of it may have been wiped off during battery replacement ?

any ideas??

it wont be conductive gel. dirty battery contacts are not uncommon.

Its not the battery contacts, its the button contacts. I have sorted it now
