Is there a Nissan Almera specialist who can advise and possibly fix my problem? I have tried Nissan forums but they seem to be dead!
My daughter has a 2003 Nissan Almera 1.5S petrol RHD. It stalled and will not start. It turns over as usual. When the ignition is turned on the immobiliser lamp blinks 6 times and the stays lit. It doesn’t go off after 15 mins so not a fault in the dongle.
Clues:
1
Immobiliser lamp lit
2
The radiator cooling fans come on when the lamp is lit.

I cannot read any errors because my EasyOBD II reader says
Vehicle Data Bus OK
No Vehicle Response/Connection or Power
If there are any faults they cannot be read because the K-line is held low. With the ignition on, between pin7 (K-line) and pin 5 (signal ground) on the diagnostic socket I have 2.7V not 12V

I thought that perhaps the immobiliser may have been damaged and a firm said to send it to them for repair. I have it off the car. Before posting it off I thought I would run EasyOBD again. It still flashes 6 times and then stays on, and the fans still run until I disconnect the cables. I checked the voltage between the K-line and the ground when the fan cables are disconnected and it was the same, 2.7V not 12V. Perhaps it isn’t the immobiliser or maybe the feed to it is down. No change to 1 or 3 if either or both the cooling fan fuses are removed, or if the cooling fan relay is removed, or the coolant sensor disconnected.

The central locking works fine so I presume the key is OK.
Why would the fans run?

Someone suggested reprogramming my only key, but it didn’t work for me.

no specific assistance,
but is it allied to the Renault systems..??,

the central locking uses a battery.. in the key, ( NOT immob related)

the ignition / immob chip may well use an "aerial" around the ign. lock barrel

shame you only have 1 key..,

There are similarities but the 2003 Almera was early in their collaboration.
Note: The starter did turn over well and the battery is fully charged. Now nothing happens when I move the key on to start:confused: The headlights don’t dim when the starter is turned fully on
I have no feedback here and none of the national or local auto-electricians seem to have a clue. Looking at the attached circuit diagrams, it seems to me an ecu internal fault for the fans and perhaps this has taken the k-line low. The starter did spin but now doesn't suggests a fault in the SECU not the fuse J11 feeding the ignition switch as the other lines on the ignition switch are OK. Why me?
Any comments welcome
I have attached a circuit pic.

Fitted replacement set of ecu, immobiliser, SEC/MCM, antenna aerial and keys. Everything still the same:confused:
Fans come on with ignition, NATS blinks 6 times and stays on, K-line still 2.7V. Perhaps there is a short somewhere.
Any help appreciated

Usually an immobiliser light blinking is the car saying it does not recognise the key.
On Fiats, the ignition ECU has to talk to the body ECU before it will allow the car to start. It is common for the starter to turn, but no ignition.

On a Fiat, if only the ignition ECU is changed, it has to be told to talk to the body ECU. So changing what you did, may not solve the issue.

If I read your thread correctly, you have already tried reprogramming the key. That now may have added a further issue.

If there is a body computer, you might need this as well from the car that donated the rest.

Have you checked the handbook for an immobiliser reset? The Fiat systems have a process, but the code needed is not supplied with the car, and has to be requested from a dealer, usually at a cost.

Have you spoken to a Nissan dealer?

Thanks for the comments. I changed the immobiliser, engine ecu, SEC/BCM and antenna amplifier and keys to matching ones from a matching donor car. I didn't change the dongle unit which I am now told is fitted to RHD Almeras because I didn't see one. The BCM, (Body Control Module) is probably the body ecu you speak of on Fiats.
I tried reprogramming the key before fitting the donor bits because I wondered if it had been 'lost' by the ecu. I have the instructions for how to do this but have since read that you cannot reprogram a key while the car has an immobiliser issue!
I believe the central problem is the K-line being held down at 2.7V and the cooling fans running when the ignition is on (possibly related), but I cannot find a detailed wiring diagram for the Almera.
I haven't visited my useless Nissan/Fiat dealer yet because their stock reply is 'book the car in'.

Yeap done that. The Nissan manual doesn't allow you to trace your way through. I found one wiring diagram which looked promising but the uploaded files have been deleted and the original poster has been banned from MHH.com I have the Haynes but that isn't much use
What I am looking for are suggestions of where a fault may be that affects the K-line and the fans.
