The title may be a clue.... I think I have knackered the clutch and/or DMF :bang:
I had to tow a mates BMW 530d after the turbo went. No choice but to tow it out of danger with the "A" frame (PLEASE DON'T feel the need to lecture on the legalities of these frames, I know ).
Anyway, since it was a short "get out of danger" tow, I thought we could do it and be merrily on our way.
However, being German and near me, it did everything in it's power to go wrong.
So, while turning right, I had to stop to avoid a bint in a silly little car
As I did so, the beemer decided it wanted to go left, so when I lifted the clutch I was rewarded with what felt like 35 tonnes holding me back. But we were half way over a junction and blocking the road.
I had no option but to slip the clutch (or stall) and haul the big fat 530 slug around with it's front tyres smoking as they slid sideways. The Doblo tyres were also smoking as I dumped the clutch and used all 152 horses to get us out of danger and the radar of Mr Plod.
I let the car cool down for an hour, as we arranged a bigger tow, with the pedal depressed & held down with a stick.
Anyway, now I have a lovely vibration upon lifting the clutch pedal, which disappears entirely when the pedal is all the way up. The pedal is higher and I get a tiny slip of the clutch now and then, but not always.
I am guessing the clutch lost around 10,000 miles which explains the higher pedal, but not sure about the vibration. It's too light to be severe damage, but vibrates enough to show excessive wear.
The slippage I think is due to glazing effect.
The car had major servicing done before I bought it as it was a taxi and I am certain the clutch isn't 'that' old. I do wonder if they perhaps did a DMF conversion as there is no rattle or vibration except upon taking up the drive.
I've done plenty clutches in my time, but if there is anyone on here done a 1.9 jtd, are there any short cuts?
Ta.
