I have a multipla on a 54 plate, recently when on a bank and i pull off i can smell the clutch, its not slipping or anything yet but also judders frequently on flat pulloffs, but i am starting to think the clutch could be on the way out, firstly is there anything i can look out for and test, secondly i can get cheap parts through a friend but am not mechanically minded so couldnt do it myself, does anyone know anyone in stoke-on-trent or near that could fit it for me as cheap as possible, cause running a house with 4 kids doesnt leave me much spare cash also i am really worried at seeing prices of £700-£800 for changes..

Thanks

It depends on whether you have a petrol or diesel model. A 1.6 petrol Multipla is a reasonbly straightforward job, budget around £300 supply and fit. If they tell you it's a seven and a half hour job etc. walk away because they either don't know what they're talking about or think you don't know what they're talking about! Diesel is a different matter as youi have a dual-mass flywheel which is best to change as well (may even be the main problem) which will double the price. I would'nt recomend you supply your own parts, it provides an easy get-out for the fitter if things are not right.

Thank god its a petrol :) also thanks for your info much appreciated, shame i didn't live closer to you :D

I get some clutch judder when setting off and am thinking of changing the flywheel to a non dual-mass effort.

Can anyone tell me model/make/year of other cars that have a flywheel that will fit my 2001 105 jtd so I can get down the scrapyard and find one???

Thanks, st1vo

Before you start messing with flywheels, make sure your crankshaft pulley is OK. It's a metal-rubber-metal sandwich and after I had mine replaced all the judder I'd been whingeing about disappeared
