Hi!
So I've recently bought a stilo 1.9 jtd multijet, the issue I'm having is the clutch pedal sticking to the floor. As soon as the engine is started it needs approx 6 pumps to get it back to normal then after I have set off only 4 or 5 gear changes until it needs pumping again, this can be done either stationary with the engine on or off, or when the car is rolling but in neutral. I have taken it to a garage and they have said it could be either master cylinder, concentric slave cylinder or dual mass flywheel causing the problem?! It had a master cylinder fitted 4K miles ago (before I purchased the car) but I've been told it could be faulty, seems like everyone I speak to tell me something different and was wondering if anyone has had any experience or knowledge about this. By the way there is no leaking of fluid, if I drive round using minimal revs it seems to be better. As soon as i give it a bit of acceleration it's almost instant. Id really appreciate some help at this stressful time. Thanks. Tom

Sounds like you need to either bleed or worse case replaced your slave cylinder.. Bleeding is 10 min job but replacing is internal gearbox jobby

already done that, and from the forums im looking at it seems to be a toss up between slave and master but jut read a thread that someone replaced slave cylinder and it didnt fix it?!? apparently if its leaking fluid its likely to be slave cylinder but mine isnt losing any fluid. so confused! :s

btw ive been quoted £242 inc vat for slave cylinder fitted but dont want to spend it if its not the right one! its like playing the irish lottery! lol

Hi I don't know if it's the same on the jtd but i had the same problem on my 1.6,bled the clutch, replaced the slave and master cylinders nothing seemed to cure it....
Until I noticed fluid leaking from the bulk head...
There's a little diaphragm with the pipes going into it got one from s scrappy for a fiver bled the clutch and it's been spot on ever since!

This is the issue that's making it hard to find, I'm not losing any fluid at all. Being taking it on short journeys locally just to see if it does and it hasn't lost a drop, I've got it booked in for Wednesday to have a slave cylinder fitted. I've been told it could be sucking air in which is why it needs pumping. I don't kno a great deal about underneath the bonnet and 90% of mechanics I don't feel like trusting. Thanks for your help I'll pass your info onto the mechanic ??

Check your brake calipers etc as well guys..as the circuit is linked. Stuck a 'Recon' rear brake caliper on my JTD and it leaked like .... affected the clutch no end.

This is the clutch concentric slave cylinder inside the clutch housing.

I had this exact problem (1.9 JTD) while I was away from home... so I changed the master cylinder on the bulkhead first (since I got the part quick and a local garage could fit it the next day) just in case that was the cause.

It was fine for a few days (I guess because the clutch was bled afterwards) but as I arrived home, the clutch went dead again and the pedal never came back.

The CSC is available separately or as part of a clutch kit. If you know your clutch is perfect, then buy just a CSC... but if you dunno how old your clutch is, or it's done 50,000 miles already, then it's not worth the pain of changing just the CSC.

Anybody changing the clutch .. unless you have a fetish for removing gearboxes.. ALWAYS change the CSC at the same time. It's a bit more expensive.. but what will hurt you more is the Labour cost of getting it fitted when you didn't replace it and it dies.

CSC does not leak fluid every time it dies. My bell housing was "damp" with fluid spray where it had leaked and been flung around the bell-housing but the fluid level had not dropped significantly and there were no drips under the car.
