Hi

Does anybody know what this part does (the round black thing)? It sits in the middle of the clutch slave cylinder pipe. The pipe is leaking on my car and I wanted to see if I could bypass it rather than replace it. I assume that it is an expansion chamber but not sure how important it is.

Thanks

Definitely not meant to be there. Looks to me like a screw shut valve, rusted at the back.
You are safe to cut the plastic either side of the rusted piece. Replacement is a pipe connector commonly used to replace the "quick release" joint you can see further up.
eBay has a cheapy push fit also for Ford Ka and also a compression fit.
I have just fitted the cheapy which came apart 😞. Suddenly no clutch and first gear limp home.
Bought the compression one due Monday (Yodel 🤬).

Thanks for the response, really helpful and what I was hoping to hear.

Fitted the compression connector. More confident than the push fit. No instructions included but basic.
Pipe inserts don't fit into the 2008 Fiat. Fitted with PTFE and careful asymmetric olives.
Job done.
Some pictures look like a softer clutch pipe. The insert works, as I dry fitted on another same sized pipe. Also the failed plastic connector gripped the softer pipe. The Fiat pipe did not 'bite'.
Hopefully your sorted.

Hi, yes, I used a compression fitting like this one & so far so good. I didn't put any inserts in but all seems OK🤞Thanks again for your help and glad your sorted.

Of course its meant to be there!!??....... Every twinair has them, how do you think they get there?
The OP`s initial question (which remains unanswered) is about this unknown part! i wasnt referring to any other round black things, like tyres, they all have those
Its been a while since ive been on here, it used to be a place to ask questions and get help and ideas but it looks like its gone the way of a lot of "forums" nowadays, people being deliberately antagonistic trying for a bite......

Sorry to have offended.
Offence is never given, it can only be taken.
I will ignore you in future.
Kind regards.

Are you able to clarify what this part is though? You say it's not meant to be there, but clearly they have been installed at the factory, maybe to help with filling or bleeding the fluid? or some sort of compression chamber? In which case maybe it does have a useful function for clutch control. Many thanks

My initial response to the OP clarified, not meant to be there! There are other round black things.
Care to read the whole thread ..?
For future it would be helpful to have replied to the initial post if it related more specifically to your question.
Yes it is meant to be there!! Its a dampener and they all have them. It may work without it. For how long and at what cost, who knows

I did ask the OP who had by-passed it how he had got on with it and if there was any negative effects but not heard anything??
Its just strange how this part is only specific to the Twinair?
