clutch replacement

I have been informed by my warranty company that the life of my marea clutch is 60,000 miles so therefore I have to pay the £600 myself.Any thoughts please.

For what its worth...

I bought an 'n' reg 1.4sx 60,000 mile Brava 3 weeks ago & since then have had to replace the clutch (£260) from auto-fit centre. One garage I spoke to said he'd just replaced the clutch on another 60,000 mile one (gave mileage without any prompts from me) so maybe this is not unusual. My clutch wasn't slipping but the thrust bearing was gone & was squealing. Maybe yours is an engine out job since its £600, otherwise seems expensive (you have to drop the transmission on my car & they charged 4 hours labour for this).
If your car is under warranty I feel they should replace it free of charge. My other car an Audi A4 (bought at 3 year old 58,000 miles from an Audi dealer) had transmission slack. They kept assuring me it was normal But I kept telling them it was not right. As an act of good faith they replaced the clutch, gearbox & differential. The car has still transmission slack but I have since learned this is normal & indeed it hasn't changed in 35,000 miles.

Good luck, you shouldn't have to pay, you are an unhappy customer & they should value repeat custom.

Hi. My Brava's milage is 130K and I have not had any problems with the original clutch or gearbox. Anyway, I think it's way due its time and should be replaced (I mean the clutch). Got the Sachs clutch plate/disc and will be visiting the workshop soon.

Thanks for your info.My clutch was squealing and they said it was the clutch bearing but they replaced the whole gubbins hence £600.The warranty is one of these LLoyds insurance warranties and their engineer told the garage that 60000 miles is the life of the clutch.I intend contacting Fiat for their opinion and then commence battle to get my money back,apart from that my 2.0 20valve weekend estate is a joy.

Where did you buy the Sachs clutch and how much is the costs. It is a complete set with the bearings? Do you intend to change the clutch spring?

Dear Syed,

I bought the whole set from Sykt Glory for RM 460 which includes pressure plate, clutch disc and release bearing. I don't know about the spring. Does it need replacing too?

Not to sure about the spring. Last time with my Ford TX3, I did replace the clutch spring. But with my Brava, especially when the engine is cold, when releasing the clutch, there is a sound like a rusted spring or something like that. RM460-00 is quite cheap for a Fiat clutch.
