Ok guys, here's the problem with my MK1 60s. When the car's cold, gear changing is ok although I have to push the pedal to its very end to avoid the crunching sound. But when it's warm, the clutch becomes stiffer and even when the pedal is pressed to the end it still crunches when I try to get in reverse. Is my clutch about to go:confused: ? Or it's to do with the master/slave cylinders? Or can I adjust the freeplay to make the engaging point a bit higher? Thanks in advance!:worship:

1) What does the car feel like when driving when you press your foot all the way down does it feel like it doesnt want to move? (lots of noise or more then ususal with no power?)

2) When stationary with the stereo off in neutral are their different sounds coming from under the bonnet with the clutch pedal up and with the clutch pedal down? (should be able to hear from inside the car) If you can hear a sound which goes away when you press the clutch its probley the main shaft bearing on the gearbox. if the sound goes away on release then its probably the clutch

3) If you are idling to high sometimes the gears will crunch and not let you engage could be a Gearbox synchro problem also you cannot select 1st while moving on most cars.

4) Is your clutch biting point very high as in in first how far up do tou have to bring the pedal before it moves?

5) If you Cant pull off in 2nd and 3rd gear with the clutch alone then maybe Clutch
