as above, clutch went last nite.

looking at prices of around £250.

anyone got any advice when looking?

cheers, maxim

Make sure it's a new origional Valeo part is the best advice I can give. many places such as Mr Clutch and the like use cheap replacements that wont last 5 mins.

Cheap clutch is not always a good idea so whatever quotes you get ask about part source and warranty.

hmmmm getting prices £200
£179.78 everything included for a reconditioned unit, 2 year guarentee or 20,000 miles.

i cant afford to get a clutch from fiat or anything.

fliippin carrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
arghhhhhhhhhhh

pretty much what Oz said Maxim, avoid Mr Clutch like the plauge, they are imcompetenet ****************************************** (replace stars with appropriate explitives)

if you go to a local motorfactors you can pick up a valeo clutch for around 70 - 80 ish i think it is, then your looking at labour. also bear in mind getting the box off seperately on the 1.6 is a b1tch of a job due to space passing the sub frame and also the driveshafts are lubricated via the gearbox oil, so that will be anopther cost added (it all builds up)

so andy you recomend buying the clutch seperately and getting a valeo one and then ringing around to see who will fit it?
better then letting a company like Mr clutch buy and fit one?

because the latter was what it looked like i was going to.

?

Seriously, don't scrimp on it. Mr Clutch are renowned for problems. Peace of mind and a clutch that lasts the rest of the life of the car are worth the extra money.

Consider this. Shabash! is on 88k and still on the same clutch so they can last. Mr Clutch - I wouldn't bet on it.

i used mr clutch about 2 and a bit years ago and my new clutch died within 2 weeks. when i originally went there with a very slippy and noisy clutch they told me it was the gearbox to which my respnse was wtf are you on... ive already killed 2 boxes so know what they sound like... but they stuck with it and the clutch failed on the way home from there. had to get them to do it as they were the only people that could do the job asap and i need my car for work

try and find a good local garage, they are much much better, unfortunately it may cost more but the job and parts will be considerably better. its best to have a word with the garage about you supplying a clutch, some dont like it some just wont give as long a warranty on the work others have no problem. but youll need a break down of the ocst, parts supplied and labour

I've got to agree, definately dont touch Mr Clutch.

I used them a couple of years back when the clutch went on my Clio.

They fitted a new clutch, clutch cable and pedal box (due to the clutch cable snapping and ripping through the mechanism)

The clutch cable and pedal box held up but the clutch had major slipage after a couple of thousand miles.

I remember trying to drive back from Donny South with the clutch struggling to bite on the motorway.

As Andy and Al have both said, source yourself a Valeo clutch and then find yourself a garage that knows a gearbox from an exhaust pipe.

Good luck fella, keep us posted.

I got a clutch kit 4 my hgt just ova 3months ago for 77 quid includin delivery wit 20000 mile/3 yr warranty!

Good quality clutch pays off, my brava is just having a new one in after 117k though the thrust bearing failed on mine before the plates did. Bought one seperate and just got my mechanic to fit.

any point in getting a sports clutch or anything like that for a little extra?

Try this site out they are cheap but good quailty and they do sport kits www.clutch-specialists.co.uk
