Help!

After having my clutch replaced in May (less than 10,000 miles ago) my Multipla has not been going into gear very well. 3 weeks ago whilst sitting in the 3rd lane in a traffic jam on the M56 my car decided not to go into gear at all so the only way to get it moving was to start it in gear and drive slowly in first to the hard shoulder.

My mechanic has had a look at this and has come to the conclusion that the fork inside my gear box that connects to an arm that connects to my clutch has snaped taking my clutch with it and now resulting in a new clutch and gear box fork needed to be fitted.

Is this far fetched or is it possible?

Dont know really but cant say ive ever heard of one going on any car but im not a mechanic.
Im off to go and look at mine while the gearbox is off.

Mine was actually doing this as well but it was the clutch plate was fitted the wrong way round :bang: but to get by i found if i selected reverse then tried for first it would go in ok.

Thanks for your input. I am not a Mechanic but I can understand mechanical things. My understanding is that this fork engages the thrust bearing that would work the gear box however the fork only works if the clutch has been pressed so that the slave cylinder then pushes the fork. If this is the case, if the fork was snapped surly this would only result in the car not going into gear as if the clutch was not pressed therefore how would this damage the clutch??? Yes I have thought about this alot!!!

If you do check yours please let me know if my theory is about right.

Thanks

Are you sure its not that pesky spring in the clutch master cylinder??? Thats exactly what happened to mine....and it was the spring. Very rare for a clutch fork to break.
