Last few weeks I've noticed the clutch pedal starting to click when depressed and released...and its getting annoying...it sounds like a spring, it all works ok at the moment and I've had a look and all seems in place, but cant fathom out where the noise is coming from..what is inside the master cylinder?

I'm onto my second multipla now and when I test drove it I noticed a clicking like you describe. At the time I was more interested in getting a low mileage Multi and figured if anything went wrong I could claim on the 12 month warranty and get it fixed.

The clutch did feel a bit random when you pressed the pedal and Fiat said it was fine!, but shortly after I lost the ability to change gear at all so had to drive it to the garage in 2nd gear and they agreed there was a problem and put a new clutch in. That did improve things but the pedal still seemed a bit random and not 100% so I took it back and they replaced the master cylinder.
The clutch feels correct now and works how I expect it to but I still have the clicking pedal !! It is something to do with the pedal, it was louder in the summer when it was warm but not so much now so I've learned to live with it.

Thanks...
But mine seems to be definately something in the master cylinder...
If I disconnect the linkage and move pedal there is no noise, only when connected to cylinder...all works fine though..strange

I've noticed that my pedal doesn't click at all now.
With my last multipla, for ages it clicked or a similar noise and then one day it didn't work correctly and I took it to my garage and he immediately found oil on the piston going into the floor. I bought the new cylinder and the garage fitted it, I was expecting a large bill after reading about the job on here but he only charged me 60 quid !!

Mine clicks, but it's pretty quiet. Sounds like a lightweight spring catching on an edge or ledge to me. Nothing's felt through the pedal and it hasn't got any worse for months/years, so I'm not too bothered about it.

I had the clutch master and slave cylinders replaced by my local Fiat dealer when I bought the car (a wallet pummelling experience) nearly five years ago. joffster - £60 to have the master cylinder replaced was a steal. If the poor guy carried on like that, he'd be out of business by now!
