Was giving my 'mobile a good clean this morning and when I got to the dashboard I was stumped. It's not the type you can use the general protect and shine sprays on cus of the deep grooves and the normal matt finish and I suspect if you put a yellow duster anywhere near it it would leave yellow bits everywhere.

Now, it will get dusty and dirty so what do you do? Come on people! Cleaning tips requested! :p

And having already learnt my lesson, I would be interested to know how to remove all of those yellow bits from my dash :I

Hi,

To remove the bits of fluff, wrap some sellotape or brown packing tape around your hand (sticky side outwards obviously :D) and go over the dash with it. All the bits will stick to it, you'll probably go through a good bit of tape so buy some cheap stuff!

I'd recommend Natural Shine Vinyl Rubber Protectant from Meguiars for cleaning the dash. You can get it from www.speeding.co.uk . The bit of text on the website says the following:

"Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant *Cleans *Shines *Protects Designed for people who want to maintain that rich 'like new' look on their dashboards, trim, tyres and hundreds of other surfaces. Unlike some protectants that leave an artificial plastic or greasy look, this formula brings back the original natural finish and allows you to control just how much shine you add. With one application, you create a perfect, "like new" shine. With two applications, you can increase the shine and darkness and create a look that goes beyond the standard factory finish. To help create a rich, natural shine this complex formula includes cleaning agents that help remove dirt and grime that dull or discolour your finish. We've also added UV protection to reduce damage from the sun. 473 ml. trigger spray"

Then just use a lint free cloth

Have just looked on that site and found something which sounds a bit better to me as the dashboard isnt meant to be shiny. Look at the car care section then at the Simoniz stuff. They do a matt cockpit cleaner and it says:

"Simoniz Cockpit Cleaner Matt Finish. This new powerful foaming cockpit cleaner removes ingrained superficial marks from dashboards and plastic interior trim....Simply spray and wipe to leave a NON REFLECTIVE matt finish with no slippery residue and the cool lemon fragrance refreshes the interior of the car to leave a pleasant driving environment"

Sounds perfect to me and its only £5.99.

I 'hoover' mine and use a damp cloth on stubborn marks.

Haven't tried hoovering the dash but can recommend using a microfibre cloth as they don't leave any 'bits' behind.

You can either use it dry to pick up 99% of the dust and crap (it sticks to the cloth until you shake it) or you can just spray it lightly using a plant sprayer/old windolene bottle which allows you to control how damp the cloth gets and stops you chasing water runs round the dashboard.

Paintbrush?

Hi All

I used a bucket of warm water with some Halfords Advanced Car Shampoo, and wiped that on the dashboard - once it dries, it looks brand new! Using a soft paintbrush will loosen any dirt that has got stuck.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Has anyone noticed this material is very similar to that used in the BMW 5 series??

Roope - You used a bucket of water on your dashboard!! Weren't you worried about your electrics?? How long it take to dry out the carpets, seats, etc afterwards?? ;)

Ok perhaps I phrased it wrong!

I used a damp sponge, which i rung out often in the bucket of water placed outside of the car!
