I bought my 1996 Cinq Sporting about 7 months ago. Never had any major probs until yesterday (on a nice coastal drive) when the temp gauge hit 130 and steam was coming out the bonnet!!! I was regularly topping up the engine coolant as this seemed to be emptying quite quickly but before this rarely seen the temp gauge above 50. On getting it home i filled up the coolent and ran the car to operating temp and noticed a leak, but where from? I have been reading so many things on this forum about possibilities; Head Gaskets, Pressure Caps, Water Pumps etc... what should i be checking first as a process of elimination??? Your advice will be greatly appreciated!

Top up with water , Run engine, Check temperature guage is hot, Check fan comes on and look around hose joints and radiator.
could be head gasket? probs likely, whats the milage on the car?
Make sure its all bled after refilling.

this happend to mine i found out it was the water hose pipe had lost its thread somehow and was hanging off.
