:) Hi all, this is my first post on the forum and i'm hoping you guy's can help me. My girlfriend's Cinq is refusing to start, you turn the key and can hear the Fuel Pump switch on but then all that happen's is a clicking noise from the Relay's above the ECU. Can anyone offer some advice, i'm no mechanic so my knowledge of car's is very Basic. Is it something as simple as replacing the two Relay's? The Cinq is an N reg 988cc. Any help or advice will be gratefully recieved!

Hello there,

1st thing - is the battery fully charged ?

2nd thing - the starter motor maybe faulty. put the car in 2nd gear & rock it forward & backwards to try & free the bushes inside the starter motor. Do this a couple of times, put it back in neutral & try starting the engine.

If that doesn't do it, try hitting the starter motor with the wooden end of a hammer :D

Give these a go & see how you get on.

My friend with a 55 punto had this exact problem, he solved it by having the starter motor replaced. I think the started motor cost a bit though, so hopefully you don't have the same thing....

EDIT- welcome to the forum (y)

(y) Thanks for the advice guy's. Big Blue, the battery is fully charged, so will try putting the Car in 2nd and see how I get on this afternoon. A Re-con Starter shouldn't cost too much, should it?

 Hi, tried poppin it into 2nd and giving the Starter a few tap's with a hammer as suggested but no joy. Turned the key, the Fuel Pump comes on and the try's to start but nothing else happens apart from the Clicking noise coming from the two Relay's above the ECU. Got a Mobile Tuning/Diagnostic guy taking a look next friday, so finger's crossed!

Hi,
Yeah, check the earth leads, the one under the expansion tank, body to engine, they sometimes break at the engine end....

Thanks
