Hi Everyone, I a newbie to this forum, couldn't find a newbie section so unfortunately my first post is a cry for help. :D
I was trying to fix my girlfriends car at the weekend but I have run out of ideas.

Its a N reg Cinquecento with the 899cc OHV engine.
It had been running fine then one morning it refused to start.
I can get it to start but it just about ticks over on full throttle and coughs and splutters and eventually dies.
It seems to run better with the top of the throttle body missing (so the airbox isnt connected), but still will only tick over badly at full throttle. It runs lumpy and pops and backfires through the throttle body.
It sounds like some sort of timing problem. I have each plug out and I have a spark to all of them. I pulled the fuel pipe off that is attached to the throttle body and it is pumping fuel. Also when I took the plugs out they were wet.

I have had a read of some previous posts and I have heard reports of a faulty crank sensor? Could it be this? Where is it located?
Other thoughts I had was that is was maybe some sort of air sensor?, but I wouldn't of thought this would cause it to run so badly?

Any help/ideas would be much appreciated (y)

Thanks!!!!

Hi, welcome to the forum :)

Sounds like the crank sensor to me (also known as the TDC sensor)

The crank sensor points to a toothed wheel on the end of the crank shaft. It should be on the left hand side of the engine, should be easy to spot. they're only around £25 new from a motor factors

Thankyou for the welcome :)

Speedy response to! I have seen the sensor you are talking about its behind the drivers side wheel. That means I have to take that stupid inner wheel arch liner off.
Damm it :bang:

Thanks for your help I'll try that and let you know how i get on!

If its not that what shall I try next?

you're welcome :)

if it's not the TDC sensor (99%) sure it will be, then i'd look at the fuel injector next. if it is sticking open, the car will over-fuel and run badly
