howdy all! Did my first track day in the cinq on Monday. Had a great time. track was mondello park in ireland, national circuit. Twisty technical circuit with no long straights so suited the cinq.

The car is a failry standard 1997 cinq sporting with chip, disks, pads, strut brace and apex suspension and back seats whipped out.

First impressions were it was good through the corner, but did understeer a bit. ANy ideas on what can cure this? Im on standard wheels and tyres. No power on the straight so was getting passed by everything - looking at engine change at some stage. Hopefully 1368 (if it will fit - has anyone done this in a cinq?)

Ill be doing more track days in the cinq, and am using it as a rolling modification kinda thing. Ill keep yis updated.

It does look as though those sidewalls are compressing more than I'd expect. Could be tyre pressures.

Without putting a cage in, one thing some people say helps is putting a brace more or less where the rear seat was: the rear seat is said to stiffen the rear end a little. You can't buy these things commercially, but one would be easy enough to knock up.

standard tyres - p700s at 28 psi cold.

this is my first go at doing a track car or anything like that.

what suspension would you recomend rallycinq?

Ah, so that's why the writing is slowly wearing off my Cinq's sidewalls ;)

Sorry to go 1/2 ot but how old are you, and how much did it cost for track insurance and the day itself?

About stiffening up the rear, wouldn't the rear beam do that already, to a degree?

cheers fingers - ill try 32 the next time. Im also going for some different tyres next time. preferably a track day tyre something like an a048 by yokohama.

@ dan, im over 30 :) and didnt get track day insurance. (i dont even know if it is avilable in ireland)

Good question. If you are going to use the car on the road you need something that is adjustable, as a tarmac set up will be horrible on the road.

Height adjustable would be good too, so coil over fronts, and two pairs of rears to suit what you are doing at the front.

Cheers

Cheers Rallycinq! I plan on using it on the road allright - ill have a look round and see what is out there.

I used some Dunlop sport 2000 in 175/50 r 13 on my old Cinq.. fantastic.. actualy tread was wider than a 185.. but kept the rolling diameter.. brill in the dry but as the footprint was quite large, they would slide in the wet a bit.. wear was great.. should think those P700's are worn out now.. the original set on my car was done in 15k miles.. the Sport 2000 were still going strong after 20k
