Hi guys,

New to this forum, so I hope this is the right place!

My wife has recently got a soleil and the sunroof refuses to open. When you press the button, the passenger side moves by about half an inch, but the driver side doesn't budge at all - motor sounds as though it is trying!

Is there some sort of lock? or is it possible that the runners have come "off the rails"? Anyone had this problem and can give me any clues how to rectify it?

Many thanks

I have a soleil and my roof is broke aswell. i think there is a kind of locking device that locks when roof is fully closed. but dont know how to fix that if its broke. on mine one of the litle nylon slider bits on the leading bracket has came off this caused it to jam and not open or close. the runner at the front is made of horrible alloy crap and is brittal as hell there could be a peice of that broke and jammed in the works aswell. Does the roof close and lock down properly or is one side slack when closed. I can email you an exploded parts diagram for the roof if you pm me your email adresse
it might help you get your head round the problem as you can see all the bits. not in great detail i have to say. parts are prety cheep for the roof but webasto wont guarente the parts as they say that the roof was made for fiat and the holandia 400 roof should use the same parts but they cant guarentee it. they look the same to me and i hav had my roof in bits.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone found a solution to this?

I've just a got a Cinq with the same problem - it opens about an inch and then stops.

Any help appreciated!

I had this problem and found it was the bowlan cable ( the cable that runs around the inner lip of the roof) .To change this you have to drop the roof lining at the back and this gives you access to 4 bolts which hold the roof on . when these are removed the whole roof slides off and gives you access to the runners and cable.
To replace the cable its just a matter of taking the old one out and replacing , along with the front runner.
To thread the new one through you have to remove the motor and guide it down the channel.
Its a bit fiddlely getting it all back together but should solve the problem .

If you pull the side that isnt opening (mine was passenger side)while pressing the open button it might open but dont force it to hard. if you keep both sides level it should open so you can get a better look. if the side wont move at all ie. stays locked down. you will have to releace the locking mechanism. (easier said than done)its a pain to get to use a screwdriver and try to persuade it to release. i never actualy fixed mine i sold the car insted. but i will help as much as i can as i spent hours messing about with mine. does the roof lock down properly or is it slack on 1 side.
does 1 side stay locked while the other moves or does it open a bit before it jams up.

One side locks but the other is slack - so much so that you can get your hand inside, which isn't great for security.

Thanks for all the replies :)

The part that will be broken is the wire 16 or 17 part no 71712323 driver side and 71712324 near side, The part that holds the roof is plastic and tends to break. When you have your part, remove the motor which you will find by removeing the inside light, drop the inside roof lining from the rear, remove the four nuts at rear of sun roof, this then allows you to pull the canvas up and out. When the canvas reaches the back it should be attached to the wires via the plastic ends the roof can then be removed as it just slots in to the plastic the wire that is broke probley won't move but this can be drawn back with your fingers.just keep pulling untill its all the way out. Insert the new one till the plastic part is flush with the rail same as other side, replace the roof by inserting the lugs on the roof into the plastic at the end of the wires, make sure thay don't pop out as you feed the roof back in. Once the guides are all in the track secure the back with the four nuts. Pull the roof fully closed then make sure the motor is in the closed possison replace the motor and try if it was sucssesful re-attach the roof lining

It's been awhile since I did this job but once you get the roof off you will see how straight forward it is.
