Technical Cigarette Lighter Mk2

I've done a few of these, though not on Punto's, and I'd take the thickness of the wire as a guide more than the colours.

The cigarette lighter draws a high current, so the wire for the 12v supply to the centre pin is usually considerably bigger then the lamp supply. The earth will almost always be black!

Does anyone Have any Suggestions For Splitting the Earth??

"Chocolate block" as we used to call it. The little plastic blocks with brass inserts with a hole through the middle and two screws.

and a few turns of insulating tape.

I actualy got a couple of them out and thought about using them.

When you say Current matched what do you mean ?

Big enough to handle the highest current likely to pass through them, or that's what I'd understand by it. Basically make sure that the rating is higher than the sum of all the fuese that use that earth as a return path.

This is to connect the one black earth wire to both the lighter and its lamp. The lighter needs a spade receptacle on the end of the black earth wire so I would use a piggyback crimp on the end of the black earth (check size requred - depends on cable thickness). That will then have a spade for the lamp black wire. Cut the spade off the black lamp wire and put a spade receptacle on that.

A further two spade receptacles will be needed for the lamp red wire and the 12V supply for the lighter. At least the one for the lamp red wire needs to be an insulated receptacle (i.e. the contact part is insulated).
