I am currently looking into getting some chickens, I was going to wait until i got a bigger house/garden but thought no matter how big or small my garden is it must be better than being crammed in a cage in a building under certain death....

so

I have been looking at the omlet website

I am looking at getting one of these, i went to the RHS show in tatton park at the weekend and the omlet company was there. I had a good chat with the guys there and was shown the products properly

ive been reading the website and doing some research. People who have kept chickens for years in wooden houses have switched to the cube and have been very impressed. You dont suffer from red mite with these and the has been no fox break ins.

The omlet ones are very good and unlike most thing they hold there value very well.

We have had six chickens from BHWT, started with 3!! my sister has also had three since..

you have to have a min of three chickens , just in case one dies :(

I built a run for ours, mainly down to cost, its 8x6x6.

ill get some pics of it and get my wife to give a more indepth reply to how good chickens are

Like dronenrs says....They will strip the grass....In fact they will eat everything in the garden....My parents have 3 and their garden is stripped of everything except the Rosemary and the Mint which they don't like!

If you're planning on letting them out, you'll need tall fences....They are very clever and will work out a route to anywhere they fancy going and have made it over my parents' 6' fence!....Plus they poo everywhere!

And you will need to make sure their run is Fox-proof (Urban Foxes will dig under a wire fence if it isn'r sunk deep enough and rip it open if it isn't strong enough)

Another reason for making it secure is because there are people out there who steal chickens.

But on the positive side, they are very funny and the eggs taste amazing!

:)

Yeah chickens always get out whilst im waiting for my boss in the mronings. They can be speedy little buggers if they want to be. It all makes for good viewing on my bosses behalf and im chasing his neighbours chickens round the garden :D

I would love to keep chickens but like Phil said, many councils dont allow it and more to the point, we are overrun with foxes here, we used to have a fishpond until my security light went on one night and I looked out to see a whole family of them sitting round the pond scooping the fish out. I would lay in bed and worry about the chickens all night or end up bringing them indoors lol.

Is the floor of this thing attached to the sides? So that a fox cant dig under it?
