And then be prepared to be harrassed, breathalysed, stopped and searched every time you go out in your car in that force area for ever.

yes fun but could you be arrested for obstructing a police officer in line of duty or whatever... lol

Near where I live there is a slightly complicated traffic light junction. It is basically just a cross roads, but with a dog-leg in the middle of it. Sometimes people go straight ahead when the lft filter only is on green. The result of this is that if you are coming the other way and the lights are in your favour you might encounter a car coming through against you when they shouldn't be there at all.
This happens now and again, only today I encountered a police car doing it. He wasn't on blue lights, and he was going through carefully, which led me to believe that he knew what he was doing but just thought he was above the law.
I would love to have heard what he would have said if the boot had been on the other foot and it had been my son in his legally modified car coming through when he shouldn't have!
It would have been all:
"Do you realise I have to tell your parents when you crash this thing?"
"Do you know what a section 59 is son"
"I can turn this car into a bean can if I like"
etc.
Are you talking about the Etchells Rd/Finney Lane junction at the Griffin?

If a little research is done, the number of the Inspector's office at the local nick. Do you know the nature of the call that brought the Police there in the first place?

I've come across a number of inconsiderate parking incidents caused by Cops. Sometimes it was a case of having to get in somewhere very quickly, but at others it was ".....it's a Police car, I can park it where I want....."

Mostly it's a case of having to get reasonably close so it's easy to get away quickly if needed. A prime example might be parking outside the butty shop on double yellow lines. If a plumber gets delayed by 5 minutes because the bloke had to park round the corner then it's not the end of the world. If a Police officer gets delayed by 5 minutes the consequences could be very serious.

At Manchester Airport a Cop came across a car, parked and unattended. He looked around for the driver, didn't find one, so he issued a parking ticket. The driver returned and said that his father was a Director of the airport so he shouldn't get a ticket. The Officer refused to take it back, probably because one location that's more sensitive about unattended vehicles than all the others is the office block that contains the admin offices, and therefore all the senior management.

Unfortunately, later the same day, an Officer parked a van on the same road. That in itself wasn't really a problem as, although the road has double yellows, it's at the rear of the Nick which means if a quick response is needed, getting out isn't an issue. But, unfortunately, he also parked it across a dropped kerb, which, can be an offence of Unnecessary Obstruction.

Even more unfortunately, the kerbs were of the tactile type which could aid somebody with impaired vision a member of the public (Director's son anybody?) took a picture on his phone and sent it to Professional Standards Branch. Not only that but he also posted the image on GMP's facebook page. Cue angry e-mail from the Super. Embarrassed Cop.....problem solved. Until the next day, when bu**er me, someone else did exactly the same thing at exactly the same place.

Gotta say though, in 8 years I've never seen a blind person walking around at the airport. If they're a passenger then they'd be accompanied. If they worked there, there's no reason why they'd want to cross there. Plus, if an offence of Unnecessary Obstruction is to be proved, an obstruction must be seen. None of this negates the fact that the vans shouldn't have been parked across the kerb in the first place, and they weren't left there maliciously.

But, with social media and virtually every mobile in the country, if not the world, having a camera you need to be careful. The Cop was right to issue the ticket and right not to rescind it. The problem was that instead of manning up and admitting he deserved the ticket, Mr. Arrogant decided to get his own back.....and two Police Officers, who ought to know better, caused embarrassment to their colleagues for no better reason than they didn't bother sparing a little thought about where they left their vehicles.

Indded, that is the one.
I was turning right out of Etchells Rd in to Wilmslow Rd towards Cheadle Royal, and the police car was coming from my left as I turned so I suspect he had come from Finney Lane. I have encountered a wide cross-section of driver-types making this mistake, or emergency vehicles on blue lights, but never a police car going about normal business.

To the OP, did you speak with the local inspector about this?

Without knowing what they were doing at the time its not really fair to criticise, it looks like residential parking so they were unlikely to be nipping for some snap.

no, but I know what they where doing, there was an incident in the street a few days before and they where viewing the CCTV on the house.

they have never replied to my email so I'm going to send it again haha

Sometimes the public just don't understand a particular situation. A couple spring to mind.

An officer comes across a car parked on the Zig-Zag lines of a pedestrian crossing. There are cars parked up both before and after on each side of the road. Even if he/she finds somewhere else to park, he may have to deal with the driver while the offending vehicle is still actually on the lines. Or the Police car may have to be parked on the Zig-Zags as there's nowhere else available, even though policy should be to move the driver off the lines.

Another classic was quite a few years ago on Radio Manchester when some-one rang a phone-in programme complaining about Cop cars parked on Double Yellow Lines.....outside Stockport Police Station. The reason for that, as the presenter who was also a journalist should have known, was that it had been decided that all Police Stations should have the lines outside to prevent IRA car bombs being left outside. The Police cars from that force would have been well known and wouldn't have presented a risk.

On the face of it then, there's no apparent reason why they didn't park on the street.
