the place that i'd booked in at called me today..
apparently they can't do it.
they said it wont work, as when it gets to the corners the roof has different directions, so the vinyl wont lay properly??

is this right?
is there no way to do this?

There must be a way, it just wont be simple, they'll have to use elongated squares to make it work - thats what we've got on our F3 car, or they could just lay it as if it was flat and then trim it to shape it correctly.

Tell em to get their finger out! How much are they charging?

thats a load of crap, we used to vinyl up bikes all the time at Motografix, you can put vinyl to anything really, whatever contours,

£100 mate, they said i could buy the squares off them and lay it myself?

If they are being that fussy about it then you're probably better having a go yourself. Remembre vinyl stretches with heat, so if you need to shape it, get out your heat gun, wrap it round the corner and then cut it so it looks square. If I still lived at me mum an dads (Derby) i'd come do it for you!

depends on what type of vinyl they are using - sounds to me like they'll use cheap 3-4 year lifespan thick crap that will shrink back if they try to heat it up so it goes around the curves. If its cheap vinyl I wouldn't recommend fitting it either yourself or at all on the double curves - it'll only shrink back to its original state and look a right state when it starts picking up on the edges.

You ideally need cast vinyl, it's polymeric so it will go around double curves which is what the edges of the roof are. It's more expensive, but you could use the cast just for the outside boxes. Is the £100 fitted? sounds about right for fitted - maybe a bit cheap if they are using a decent vinyl.

This is 9 year vinyl that I wrapped around the wing mirrors - as you can see it went down perfect, but after 1 day the vinyl started coming up on the bottom because it's just not designed to do that(n)

I only put it on to see how it looks and didn't take long - yours would be about 3 hours fitting to do properly:D
