As stated in the title, does anyone know where I could get a cheap code card? Need the code to activate the lights on lock/unlock. I asked at my "local" (38 miles is the nearest) fiat dealer BV REES and they asked 50 odd pounds for it  I'll have a drive to bristol next weekend, anyone knows any fiat dealers in Bristol/Gloucester area?

Cheers,
Andy

HERE

worth a couple of phone calls but they get the ISR to supply details, you'd have to update your ISR details i would have thought but im not certain. dealers may just require V5

when i requested information held by them about my vehicle they told me this...
Email from ISR said:
...Thank you for your email.

We do not own the security data ourselves; we maintain a secure database on behalf of vehicle manufactures.

If you require security data you will need to request this information from the vehicle manufacturer or dealership...

Quoted £38 plus VAT (that's £45.60) by Thames, Kent. That's for a code that according to Page 6 of the handbook should be supplied with the car.

The handbook goes on to read: All the keys and the CODE card must be handed over to the new owner when selling the car.

Page 2 of the handbook, titled READ THIS CAREFULLY!
CODE card: Keep the card safe place, not in the car. Make sure you have the electronic code written on the CODE card with you at all times.

On page 135 of the handbook it describes how the five-digit code is needed from the CODE card to perform an emergency start-up.

Ignore the handbook - in the UK, code cards aren't supplied with the car; it is all to do with the Insurance issues.

This is nothing new on this forum :)

I only paid a few £ for my card from the main dealership. I would continue to shop around ...

Stonacre Liverpool charged me £18.00 in VAT 2 months ago, but gave me the Radio Code, Mech Code and some other code on a piece of A4 Fiat headed paper that had been faxed from Italy.

i bought a brand new stilo back in 2003 and it DID come with the code, it has to be supplied incase of key loss or failure, btw that is a UK registered car!!!

I now advise anyone buying a car new or secondhand
from a dealer that they insist that the purchase includes both the
mechanical and electronic key code as part of the purchase
at no additional cost.

The ISR states on their website that there is no charge
to recover the information held by them it can only be given
to authorised personel. Authorised by ownership!!! the info
is no use to anyone else anyway. For £20.00 can register
all your belonging with them camera laptops ect you could
also add your car then ask them to verify all codes
and keycodes they hold on your behalf. (May work).
You could also ask the fiat dealership why they are
charging what they are when they can request the info
free of charge and states so on ISR website.

I managed to get my codes off them a couple of years ago
under the freedom of information act but I had also to supply
them with a photostat of my registation document but I kept
asking for it number of times, they have to give an answer each time
under the act so it was probably costing them more to withold
the info with having to write back to me or answer emails it was
cheaper to let me have the info in the end.

Fiat use their own Database not the ISR I believe, hence the cost.

I think I need to get my key synced back to the car, as the other day I had left the car for a few days before starting it, it did struggle and clocks needles went as far down to left as poss (wierd). So I think car battery needs replacing. Since this, my remote fob no longer works the central locking, the key in the lock still works the central locking.
From reading the forum, I gather I require a code. I'm not sure if I already have it, as I have a security envelope that came with the car which contains the ISR info. And theres a fiat sticker attached to the outside with barcode and a seven digit code containing 3 letters and 4 numbers. Just wondered if this was the code?

That was lucky, the Freedom of Information Act only applies to information from government bodies and companies owned by government bodies.

No it doesn't, applies to any company or organisation / group that holds data on you which is subject to the DPA (any sensitive data). However I'm not sure the exact particulars they do and don't have to divulge. They can also charge and admin fee for a request.

I work for a company that is in no way linked to or owned by a government body, but we are obliged if requested to divulge any information held on file about a customer.

The DPA (Data Protection Act) is different legistation to the FoIA (Freedom of Information Act) and only applies to personal information, not a car, or any other inanimate object.

The customer is a person, his/her car isn't.

Yeah, I didn't think it enabled nessecarily the details of the car, but knew that it wasn't only Government depts etc.
