Panda (Classic) Cheaper than a 360 conrod.

Introduction

I have kept this quiet for months, but after 3 trains and one bus.

I picked her up. Only a 3 hour drive back.

A 1995 Selecta with 82k on the clock. :D

Shes a bit of a shed, and by bit I mean alot.
Hi Vman, thanks for the welcome. I'll get some photos of the cars up soon once i learn to sink my phone and computer together!
I emailed Gavin a photo earlier today but not sure yet how to get them on here.

Strange when people put there cars up for sale but when you phone them they can't actually sell them until they've found another!
Takes all sorts i guess? still, at least it's gone to a good home!

JamieK I've uploaded your photo for you - it's in the Panda's! album. https://www.fiatforum.com/gallery/showgallery.php?ppuser=12567&cat=500

I'll put it into a new thread if you want, but you might prefer to start one yourself saying hello.

Cheers, Gavin.

For I am the Selecta.

Had my first look around today, first problem the petrol tank is leaking.
The car has been bodged all it's life, random wires everywhere, from the clifford alarm, which doesn't work... to the electric windows that don't work... to the, what I suspect central locking... which doesn't work.

The almighty Parade is a 1993 car, the Selecta Date of First Registration 28 04 1995, it has the 'luxury' spec A-pillars, with the hole for the eleccy windows and central locking that my Parade needs. :( And the fuel cut off switch.

Timing belt cover top part missing, washer jet replaced with a random pipe.

The radio is removable, the entire thing!!! To get it out you have to turn the indicators left and the main beam has to be on. :D

The good news? She is factory fresh underneath.

As an ongoing project, shes a good one. For me to have as a project? I dunno... she's no L894 LWC. :(

:yeahthat:
It seems like a good clean, a service and some electrical work will bring that car up to acceptable levels. You don't have to spend a fortune on it straight away... Sunroof and other niggles can wait up until you got the Parade sorted (which is your loved one anyway). And you will always have a Panda to drive if one decides to have a tantrum. I am not trying to talk you into it, honest...:D

I was driving enthusiastically, when I stopped it stunk of autobox fluid. :D
I took it to the garage to see how the Parade was doing "oh they're breeding." (y)

That's a bit of surface rust, ill clean it tomorrow which will make it look better. But, I dunno I just haven't bonded with it. If it passes it's mot, it's going on Ebay, or to Mr scamp.

Bloody good day was had today. (y)
My stock manager asked if he could drive it, of course he could.
He gets in it, "Erm, it's an automatic, what do I do?" He eventually sets off with the indicators going and brings the car back in one piece.
"I didn't like that, you have to left foot brake." :D

We were working till 9 and the industrial estate closes at 8, it was nice and empty so he asked me for a drag race. (Are the Selecta rumours true?)
He has a Fiesta Titanium, I dunno what size engine, but being a Titanium model it isn't going to be a 1.2?

I booted it, we're neck and neck and then he backs off, I look over and this is what I see :eek:

The wheelspinning Selecta rumours are true.(y):slayer:

Sounds just like another day around the streets around where i live :D
Now imagine that coupled with a 1.2 8v mpi... I'm sure it would cause a few upsets

Would probably go bang. CVTs are known to not take a lot of power through the, older ones anyway. The technowledgy has improved on modern units.

Is it best to move off slightly and then floor it? eg: get rolling a little first?

Nah, just gun it from stand still. Sling it into Low. Doesn't make it any quick, but it's all physcological don't you know :p

Oh, and the Fiesta probably was a 1.2.

the best results IMO are when you pull away in L mode and drop it quickly in D once you have made some progress...
Anyway the car should not creep forward like a regular auto. The whole thing is regulated by a microswitch on the throttle pedal. If it wants to creep when stationary, that switch need setting up properly.

It doesn't creep in D, thats the first and only thing I did when I bought it.
But, I assumed if I got moving slightly first, i'd get less wheelspin?

I never traffic light raced the Parade...

The smallest Titanium they make is a 1.4 96PS. Thats 90 BHP? He must have started in 4th.

An right. I know I saw somewhere online a CVT box works out at X% more power due to how it puts it down continuously. Back when I was at college I worked out the power to be similar to if they'd done a 1.3 manual Panda. So quite feasible you simply had him :)

Can't say I've found that myself, but just like all Pandas, all Selecta's seem to have their own character :)

I assume it was wet. I'd be very surprised if it wheel span in the dry. If rolling slightly like you say you'd reduce the chance of wheel spin.

Just don't lock up your wheels suddenly by slamming on the breaks in the wet. Stalling an automatic is suppose to be impossible! :p
