Hi,

Just passed my test a week ago, and i started looking for insurance under my moms name and the cheapest one i could find on the net : £1605.03

Deposit: £300 (n)

cant afford it !

Im 17 years old ...im gona be 18 this August then it will drop to 1400£ ...

3 - 4 months to go :bang:

thanks.

i doubt it would drop just because your 18 (or mine didn't anyway) it will only start dropin properly when you start getting your NCB's under your belt.

£1600 isn't that bad my 1st insurance was £2200 mine has just dropped to £1600 now i've got my sporting

I have to agree it doesnt just drop because your gaining your age it only drops with a few years of NCB and actually being on the road.

My quote for my 1.2 97 sx mk1 punto is £1,600 for third party fine and theft
and yet im 21. 22 in August.

Reason mine is so high is because i havent even passed my test yet but when i do a % of that £1,600 will get knocked off

why do you think your insurance is high because you havent passed?
most find their insurance increases after passing given you are a higher risk

Whilst im still learning i got put on as a 2nd driver with my fiance as the main name driver and with fully comp and a small excess it cost us like £360 and that was with elephant, the cheapest i found with myself as the main named driver was around £560 and that was with diamond, there are some good deals out there.

Im afraid cheap insurance for young drivers does not exist. When I passed mine was £1700 TPFT and we could not pay monthly. Cheapest Ive found now is £1400 with churchill but its not worth the change now.

I think in the economic climate we're in at the moment we aint gonna see insurance dropping that quickly either. When I initially started driving I was 24/25 and my Insurance then was about £500 on a mk1 Punto. I've now been driving for 2 years and with my NCB im down to £287 and I've always been with Quinn Direct, not the best on service but when I had my crash even being on just 3rdPFT they still sorted me out a courtesy car. It just took about a year to get the claim settled!

but Quinn Direct, from what I've heard, seem to be the cheapest for the younger generation (y)

As said you wont get it much cheaper i paid £1600 for my mk2b 8v when i was 17 fully comp with quinn direct. This day and age though its likely to cost more, my insurance is due in may with 2y ncb (hopefully) has gone up by £200 from what i paid last year, no claims or anything.

This is illeagal if you are the main drive of the car. Its called 'fronting'.

Because i know people who have been there and done that

and as for me as a Learner driver wouldnt that mean im not road worthy so that shall mean im more of a risk where on the other hand passing my test means im fully qualified to drive the car.

but with you being a second driver your not building them NCB up for yourself

CHSajid, what model are you trying to insure? I got insured on a MK1 55s 1.1 last July and the cheapest i could find was £1509. That was with Endsleigh and they've continued to be the cheapest when getting quotes throughout the year. Quinn Direct who are supposed to be really good for young drivers wanted £2300...I'm a 17yr old lad btw.

Try calling quinn up, i used the online quote thingy's and they are useless. Quote you something ridiculous.

no you are a higher risk when you have passed as when you are learning you always have a experienced qualified driver sat next to you at all times.

Doesnt matter if you just passed and your at risk within your first year thats like saying when you get older your more of a risk to others whos on the road because of slower reactions eyesight not as good etc..

What i do know is if your aged between 17-25 your a risk to others because your in the boy racer category and also because there is more accidents caused by 17-25 year olds.

As soon as driving instructor/parent isn't sat in the car next to you theres always the temptation to drive like a dick and nobody there to stop you.

So those comments just go hand in hand really.

Yeah thats true no matter who it is they will always drive like a lunatic once in there lifetime

But as for the 17-25 year old's who cause the most accidents on the road that was stated by DVLA themselves not just an average joe like myself

My Punto 1.2 Active Sports 8v 04

The cheapest insurer on the net is Quinn direct ...iv tried everything !
iv put me as a 2nd driver ...no way im going to get cheap insurance on my own name ! .... my mom has a license over 20 years old .... and has 5 yrs no claim discount ... so yeah thats one of the things why im getting cheap insurance ....

I inputed my birthday as 18 ..and the prize dropped to 1400 (y);)

So Age does matter !
