hi, just bought a second hand marea 2.0 1999 model and it has no red key, however i still have my older mot failure 1997 marea 2.0 which does have the red key. how simple is it to swap all the necessary parts to thenew car ?

thanx

Not so good as your current car is a MK2 and the old one is a MK1. Usually you swap the ECU and code box together. However if you can get away with just swapping the code box only that would be great. But locating and swapping the code box is extremely difficult due to space to work.

But again was there a difference between MK1 and MK2 code boxes?

I would only worry if you loose your blue keys, so just get duplicates made and you'll probably never ever have need for a red key.

sorry to sound dim but i thought you had to have the red key to get a duplicate key made ?

The red key only helps fiat or yourself program the info from the ECU to the new keys so it'll turn the keycode light out (immobilisor). Does nothing else.

You can get any key cloned at Timpsons, red or blue but its best to use blue keys with the car and not red.

the red key only allows the codebox to learn key codes.
you cant teach a key a new code, only the codebox can learn codes.
