I need to replace my battery on my april 1999 barchetta. Is there anything I should think of? I only have a german handbook

Will I need to use either the red or blue Master keys afterwards? Will anything happen to the electrical system?

Thanks a lot and have a nice weekend!

Changing the battery is very easy and there are not complications or issues.

Before buying the new battery of correct rating check that the terminal posts are in the same position as your existing battery otherwise the leads will not fit!!!!

Simply:

1) turn the ignition off
2) disconnect the negative lead first (from battery)
3) disconnect the positive lead (from battery)
4) remove securing clamp(s) - there my be a clamp across the top of the battery as well as a little clamp plate on the front lower lip of the battery

Note! On a MkII (2003 onwards - don't know about Mk.I pre 2003) the battery positive lead may actually be a little junction box. If so then this will be secured to the top of the battery by two self tapping screws that go into two expanding rawl plugs. Look for a red plastic securing clip.

Putting the new battery in is just a simple reverse procedure.

THEN:

1) If you have an alarm then close all doors, bonnet, boot etc. and then cycle the alarm off-on-off

2) If you have central locking then cycle open-lock-open. Check all doors are unlocked. Now lock again and check that all doors are locked. If not then use the mechanical key top open and lock and open each of the doors. Everything should now be in sync on the remote.

Lastly you may find that when you remove the old battery that the battery try is a little rusty. This is a good opportunity to tart it up with some Hamerite Smooth silver paint after removing any loose and flaky rust.
