Technical changing a manual to a auto gearbox

hi all, just had some bad news that i am not going to be able to use my left leg for a long time due to having a new hip. ( yer i know its sh*t, plus im only 23 bloody work injury )

so as i have a 3door 115 jtd manual, i dont want to get rid of my car as its wiked and plus there is nothing wrong with it.

so could it be possible to change the gearbox in my to a abarth 2.4 gearbox????

all my family members have told be to get rid and get a mercedez auto but fu*k them, i like my little car.

so guy`s what do you think???? can it be done ?????:slayer::slayer:

just like to add I DONT WHANT A ABARTH, i think there pants compared to a jtd. they got more power but a jtd costs less to run. plus the tax is most probs a lot higher than my £130 a year now.

Sorry to hear that. I seriously doubt that it would be possible you would need a new gearbox but it's not designed for a jtd you would also need the selespeed system and controls and the bc nodes updated I just don't think it's possible not without major modification and that costs alot of money.

the only way i can see you doing it is by changing your engine to the abarth one along with the wiring harness and ecus

You could swap it for a Alfa 147, 156, Silly speed, but I wouldn't, good looking and cheap as chips they may be, but that box is not good, even worse in a Stilo Abarth, just can't handle the power!!

i know its silly as its just a car, but i have to say it is a really good car. yer it has it issues now and again with normal wear but i like it and as its chipped and can got power on the foot.
just dont want a abarth.

there must be some way of doing this, i have looked on the net and what about a dog box or them racing gear box. i know you still need a clutch to shift down but all depends on if they dont cost that much.

might be easier to sell this now and get a new car but will be sorry to see it go.
not many cars at 1.9 diesel can do over 50mpg with your foot down all the way.

very sorry to hear of your dilemma. afraid to say that it cant be done and you will need to sell the car and buy an automatic car. There aren't that many diesel autos around and the ones i have driven were c#ap. Certainly the germans lead the way so you may have to go to a golf.

if its a work injury is your employer liable as they may be able to help out. Newer turbo petrol engines are very clean and cheap but auto does knock the emissions.

Sorry to hear about your injury.

If you're intent on doing it, I'd investigate the possibility of fitting an automatic gearbox from a Croma JTD, although as there was never the option to have an automatic Stilo JTD, it may be because one doesn't fit in the engine bay.

As well as the box, you'd need the torque converter, drive plate and gear selector mechanism, and probably the drive shafts, engine management ECU and starter motor would be different.

As it was a work injury, I'd be inclined to get their insurance to pay for an automatic hire car for the duration of your recovery.

the injury happened a year ago and i have not long come off crutches even though i have been driving my car with a broken hip bone. trust me you dont want to know how iv been driving my car as i wouldnt have been covered with the insurance and most probably be illegal. ( say no more lol )

thats all i can say to the above is that as im coming closer to having a opperation and its getting to the point thats its really hard to drive. well using the clutch.

well i am not interested in a abarth at all as its a petrol and no other petrol cars.
its diesel all the way for me now after having this jtd was my first diesel car and saved me loads of money on fuel.

so have been looking at audi a3 2.0 tdi sport s line version.
but not sure as there is loads to choose from. maybe a vw touareg

jut want something wiked like my stilo.

plus my boss is liable but as he is going to court i cant get any cash out of him yet as he didnt have any health and saftey and iv got a insurance claim against him so have to wait for that.
so its all fun and games besides having to change car

i used to have a 2.4 jtdm alfa 156. Great engine, respond well to remaps too. Sound nice as well.

Well I just want a car the same size as my stilo really, a Audi a3 2.0 tdi sport is about the dames size, in peoples opinion are these cars any good? I now there fast as iv raced one and I won but it was quick.

yes they are very good but will be more in insurance etc. You will also lose the excitement that accompanies every drive in a stilo...........will you get to your destination without breaking down

Don't forget to get a chip box or remap on there as well

Possibly...but you will have to contend with all the problems associated with DPFs:

And I'm told that cars whose DPFs have been removed are likly to fail the MOT in future.

not sure if anyone still does it, but you used to be able to get autuators fitted to any manual car to do the clutch for you,

it may pay to get in touch with motability to see if they can recommend a specialist.
At the end of the day it is a hydraulic clutch and all the foot does is push the fluid through.
