Hi all I’ve just joined the forum so go easy on me. lol
I just purchased a 2012 fiat doblo 1.3 16v multijet van and I’m having a nightmare with the ability to lock the van. It only come with what I assume is the spare key(no fob) and I got it home locked it manually from the driver door and went in the house. I came back to the van and tried to open it and the key is just loose in the lock ie I can turn it both ways but it does nothing so I tried the passenger lock and it’s the same. So I went to the back door tried that and it worked but only on the back and side door. So basically I’m locked out the van so I tried everything to gain access but I couldn’t get in so I called a locksmith he made me a new key fob and gained entry but couldn’t fix the problem with the central locking and couldn’t code the new key to the van. The new key is fiat’s highest spec but still not working. So I can’t lock the van at all. He did manage to lock and unlock the doors from inside while hooked up to his computer but couldn’t fix the issue. Sorry for the long one but needs must. If anyone can shed some light on this issue I will be grateful. Thanks

If the new key and the old cannot open the drivers door physically then once you have done it with the new fob you need to remove the door panel and check the mechanical side from the inside, it may just be a broken plastic clip on the rod from the lock barrel to the actual door catch which has an electrical part to it also. On my Doblos 2010 and a 2014 Vauxhall Combo 1.3 (same model) both operated the drivers door and passenger front with the key manually, but to open the rear sliding and back doors electronically you had to push a button on the inside of drivers door.
Incidentally a common fault is wires broken at the drivers door hinge inside the plastic sheath. On my 1.6 Doblo van I had to fit a s/h door wiring loom for that reason and the fact the plastic release catch where wires go into van body had been broken and bodged up by previous owner.
On my Citroen Dispatch (Fiat Scudo) to get the new fob to recognise the central locking I had to follow directions , but basically ignition on but engine off and hold lock button down on fob and then it works. Is yours a two or three button fob as a two button will not activate the van loading doors for security reasons.
Another thing I did is removed the load security panel between front and back as I had no need of it and it then allows longer loads inside vehicle plus if you need to climb through from back.
One other thing if any door lock when shut doesn't fully close then it prevents doors from locking, although maybe not relevant for you.
Are you saying the only key that will actually start the van is the old one and not the new? In which case get another lock smith, or that it just won't work the unlocking side.

Hi mate the key is a three button fob key. Both keys work physically but doesn’t lock the doors. I put the key in the lock and it turns both ways but it turns freely as if there’s no mechanism inside but it’s the same on all locks. It was working before but all of a sudden it’s just stopped working.

I would pull the panel off the door and check that the plastic clip hasn't broken that holds the rod linking the key barrel to the door lock it's self regarding manual use, especially if it happened suddenly.
Usually if key is put in passenger door and rear doors it only locks those, where as the drivers door key should lock every door.
It may be the lock it's self on the drivers side faulty. I had a Citroen that shortly after I bought it the car would lock with keys in ignition, luckily I often have window down, so reached in an took the key out as like you there was only one. In that job I replaced the drivers door lock which had an electrical connection, that solved that problem.;)
